Another left wing "philosopher", this one younger than Sam Harris, an autodidact, and British, dives in on what happened in the US 2024 election. This fella talks about the predominant sentiment of throwing a wrench into the system. A victory of the deplorables over the insufferables. The second link goes into the voting stats:
It makes sense. I get it from the Australia POV. Labor is so utterly compromised now it literally makes no difference which of the major parties gets elected, everyone except the wealthy gets screwed now.
Trump is not the answer but the question is valid, how do we make politics work for working class again?
I would advertise that a lot if i was youWe used to get Rolf Harris in our bookshop all the time and somewhere I have a copy of his autobiography that he signed to me and did a sketch on the inside front cover.
He would have, if he had the money, and didnt have dementia. Unlike Trump in at least one respect then.Did he buy you a penthouse?
No doubt. I agree with all you've said, just saying I understand the thinking behind wanting to vote for a disruptor. It does make a difference, there's little doubt the modern LNP is worse for the majority of Australians than the ALP is. Not that the ALP is perfect, or even good, by any means.
We deserve better than 'well the ALP will be a little less crap' but it's what we've got. At least we've got preferential voting which means you can take a flyer on minor parties or independents without wasting your vote.
In any other country donny would have gone to jail for his well documented crimes, but despite his denials he's in the swamp like a lot of rich Americans, and hence why he didn't drain the swamp when he was in office before and won't this time.No doubt. I agree with all you've said, just saying I understand the thinking behind wanting to vote for a disruptor.
Believing Trump is anything other than a gangster in it for everything he can get his hands on & having everyone kiss his ass is the ridiculous thing but that's another matter.
I know you’re being ironic but if the [demographics who voted trump in] practised some introspection that would be a good thing. It's an outrage!
Those low IQ blue collar college drop outs and ethnic minorities that don't know what's good for 'em, need to take a good hard look in the mirror!
It’s a bit of a catch-22. Those who suffer most at the hands of the dreadful neoliberalism establishment that we’ve found ourselves in either can’t, or won’t, engage sufficiently with what’s going on and so are increasingly persuaded by right wing populists who offer scapegoats as a diversion while they continue to tilt the system against those most taken advantage of. Parties that purport to being more progressive need to appeal to an increasingly broad church of the less downtrodden with a conscience, but have to water down their policies to retain enough support at the polling stations to stand a chance of gaining even some government power. And many of their key actors aren’t really committed to breaking the system, but rather just tinker around the edges, and cease to challenge the narrative that props up the corrupt economic system.I know you’re being ironic but if the [demographics who voted trump in] practised some introspection that would be a good thing.
****ing idiots.

If only they had compulsory voting ,And voting on a Saturday but that will never happen. From US News -“And while votes are still being counted, preliminary election data shows about 155 million ballots were cast. This would mean an estimated 89 million Americans, or about 36% of the country’s voting-eligible population, did not vote in the 2024 general election.”
Sorry this would already have been posted, probably.
But how dumb is the general populace?
They might as well be in Russia where voting is rigged.
