Happy Robbo?
I think Robbo myself and many others will be HAPPY if
1: A proper fixture is put up at the same time as the AFL.
2: The Competition will be called AFL Reserve Grade.
3: Games to be played as either Curtain Raisers at Home Ground or other Venue
For Example 1
Season 2026
Hobart/Tasmania/Devils/Islanders
VS Collingwood a Friday night at new ground.
AFL Reserves 3:30pm
AFL Seniors 7:40pm
Example 2
Hobart/Tasmania/Devils/Islanders
VS North Melbourne a Sunday Twilight
at Launceston
AFL Reserves 12:30pm
AFL Seniors 4:30pm.
This would be a better situation as Collingwood is the most supported team in the AFL and could be either 1st or 18th on the ladder and you know the ground would be packed to the rafters as where North Melbourne is a bottom team might only attract a crowd of 8K to 10k at Launceston at a Sunday Twilight especially if it’s in the middle of winter.
Mind you if the new team has cash reserves and is allowed to do it could see them buying away games from Victorian Clubs especially North Melbourne,Hawthorn,St.Kilda,Western Bulldogs and Melbourne and speaking as a North Supporter if we played the new team at Marvel on a Sunday at 1:10pm or 4:40pm you know be lucky to get 10k to 15K at Marvel especially but North Melbourne sold its Home game to the new team especially if they offer for Example $1 Million you would have to consider it as North Melbourne won’t be getting 30K+ to the game.
Football is a business not a sport and as a club we maybe Debt free atm but it’s costing more to run a sporting club and with history of our club we’re no Colllingwood we haven’t got the support the $$$ and the political clout.

What is holding curtain raiser back are the main grounds themselves like mcg, marvel etc.
They only want afl game on the grounds so grounds remain in good condition.
No the clubs fault
An AFL game at the MCG could see a curtain-raiser at either Richmond or Collingwood's training ground.
Similarly, a Docklands game could be played at Arden Street, especially when the new railway station has been completed.

Arden Street would need a lot of work to make it match worthy. It's not even VFL standard as it is with no seating, no canteen or food options, and no toilets except for the athletics complex next to it. It's a joke that VFL games are played there.

It's also ****ing expensive to host curtain raisers at these types of grounds.
