I think he has the tools to be flexible either in a mid or fwd or mid-fwd role. His draft strengths were highlighted by his decision making (particularly in an attacking mode), kicking and a bit of toe (also leadership). So it's how they develop this offseason or season proper.

The beauty of Bolton (cost no longer matters, that toothpaste ain't going back in the tube) is that he's in that same mix. Theoretically taking some of the pressure off other lesser performers in the attacking transition area.

It might even allow Sturt to used more in the occasional tier of the mid options.
Well, maybe, eventually. Judging on his Peel season, there's not a ton of evidence for that. He struggled to get access with an outside role. His step looks really good, but his burst speed isn't quite there to play a true line-breaking small forward (like Bolton).

It also reflects that we don't need another inside midfielder—Walls specifically said Bo Allan is not a positional need for us. Hotton is getting touted as a mid-forward, but he's rated so highly on his midfield potential.

We tried the "pick up an agile, classy midfielder with good goal-sense and hope they can make it as a small forward" with Cooper Simpson. Indisputably, he looks his best doing inside work. We need to prioritise a real small forward. Plus, picking up someone to be retooled as a small forward when they've just done an ACL that might effect their agility feels perilous.
We are well positioned in this draft to snag a small forward but we have Bolton incoming and a budding small forward in our NGA crop for next year. There will be other options to look at. However Berry at our first could be very difficult to resist.

Your comment regarding Simpson being a midfielder also doesn't negate the likelihood/possibility that his career begins as a small forward. It's a fairly common development stage for small mids and could fit well with a midfield/forward rotation.

I like some of the versatile midfielder-forwards, Hynes and Davis especially, and Ough also looks interesting.

I think my view of the list is a little different from other posters. I don't really see holes in the list that need filling. I would like the draft to do what the club has done with Bolton: look for difference makers. Look for higher risk/higher reward players.

Just my thoughts. I understand the interest or dis interest shown by fremantle on certain players cannot be taken at face value, but just taking it as a hypothetical scenario if it is true.
Berry is the only small forward linked to us at the moment and we are not in the list those who interested in Hotton or Hannaford. But we and GWS are linked to a small forward Sam Toner who will be a late or rookie at the moment
As most probably the linked ones like Berry Lindsay Shanahan gone by pick 14 as Taylor suggested we may drop down swapping with dogs 17 and 25 for 14 and 30? We delisted corbbet kuek tabs and knobel. May be we may take Gerryn at 17 which may slide to 20 to 22 on draft night? He won't be available at our next pick as sydney and Tigers have multiple pick around 20s zone. Then with pick 25 which may be 30 on draft for Angus Clark or Harrison Oliver? And use the latest pick for Sam Toner?

Have you guys seen Draft Day, I think it's called - set in the NFL draft where a player with a huge reputation slides down the draft and the list manager eventually sells the draft pick to take him for an absolute bounty to the club desperate to pick him?

I'd like to see similar scenes this trade period if we have a list of players and #1 is gone with #2 projected much later.

Too early for Gerryn. He is borderline pick 40 region. A few clubs may bite off a bit earlier.

If we were able to pick off Carlton’s selection 38 should Camporeale be bid just before with the slight movement back of 38 would be around the sweet spot for him.

I reckon we select highest on our board rated player at pick 17. Lindsay, Reid, Berry, Hotton etc.

I wouldn’t be against upgrading our second if it secures Oliver or someone similar. We have been very keen on Angus Clark also. As for third pick really depends on who is available, potential to upgrade etc.

Not everyone has seen Draft day. See below: Screenshot_20241108-140739.png

Well if Bell is right and we need another HBF - then maybe we do pick up Bo Allen after all

Bell was talking about a good kicker. Not Allen's strength. I'm starting to think it is either Lindsay or Oliver as the ones we want first. Rated the two best kicks in the draft. Oliver was also referred to in an AFL.com article last week as the toughest player (pound for pound, he is not that big) in the draft.

Pick 14 would likely just be best available, no real questions asked. In that vein, I'd be somewhat surprised if it wasn't 1 of Travaglia, Berry or Lindsay. If it's none of them, likely someone has slid way too far.

The position we take with pick 14 would probably inform who we take with pick 30. Doubt we take 2 of the same type with the first 2 picks.
