Draft rankings to better see who you can expect to be available around our picks. Happy to add anyone else you want to this and I'll update if I see someone change their rankings (I expect changes given the combine just finished).

I have removed points players who are no longer relevant to us now trading is done

By my understanding of the current NGA rules, the Eagles are pretty unlikely to keep their NGA Malakai Champion. Champion didn't have the strongest finish to the year, but he's getting draft predictions 40-60 while West Coast are saying they'd like to pick him up as a Cat B rookie. West Coast hold picks 12, 26 (both of which seem too high for Champion) and 73 (which has no attached point value with the 2024 adjustment). Surely a pick that has no attached point value cannot be used as part of the bidding process, even if a club is willing to go into a future deficit.

(Unfortunately, our pick 30 might also be too early to pick Champion—but if we hypothetically did pick him with 30, it seems like West Coast would be powerless to stop us?)

I also don't know what happens when bids come in for Academy players after pick 55 now that it has no value attached to it. Does the club with the F/S or Academy attachment just pick them up for free? Or could we pip them with our pick 67 (that will presumably be shuffled up the order by others teams bidding)?

If anyone knows otherwise on any of the bidding stuff, please correct me; I already found the bidding system inscrutable before the recent changes.
West coast can match any bid from pick 1 with the new rules. They have future picks the help trade back in to match bid. He’ll get to west coast unfortunately

About 1 after us hey?
When he says it like that it sounds like a blatant media talking point (which it kinda is), but it appears to be true. The average ranking spikes right in btwn Joe Berry and Jobe Shanahan funnily enough.

(Updated to Twomey's Oct 2024. Same names in the 30, but just a shuffling of the order.)

Crazy to concede talent out of a sense of pride. Bo would obviously much rather come to Freo but I don't think that's gonna stop WCE if he's still on the board by their first rounder.
What are you talking about? Champion is in their nga, Bo isn't. Nothing to do with pride.

Bo may well prefer them by the way because he won't have to bide his time in the wafl like Erasmus has.

There's also Chris25, ESPN and Herald Sun out there. You can find the first 2 easily enough, here is the latter (couldn't be bothered with all 60 as the format was a pain in the backside to deal with).

Berry, Hynes, Hannaford, Dattoli, Davis* and Gross all with forward credentials and midfield capabilities, and all within our sweetspot.

Snuf can I borrow your bin emoji please.
I've bricked him for you
I've reflected on my desire for a small forward. If we get one, they are taking Sturt's place (eventually). Not sure how I feel about that.

Maybe an outside mid or HB upgrade for Wagner is more suitable?
With bolton coming in I think I'm fine with any of a HBF/outside mid/small. honestly anything that isn't a KPF/KPD or ruck and I'm happy

Small forward and running defender are still the area's with the least amount of depth IMO and room for improvement. Going off the rankings, it does look like we have a good shot at either at 14, we just might not have a choice of which (though it'd be nice if someone takes Shanahan and Trainor)

You'd think Richmond would be looking for a variety of players, so they'll surely grab a KPP or two which might cause other clubs to reach.

This same theory has me worried Richmond will take Berry with one of our picks. Although I do like the look of Hannaford.

I also assume Richmond will move up to 2 and/or trade a pick into next year. It's just too many picks and kids at once

Trainor is one we might be able to extract value for from another club if he makes it to 14. Perfect chance to get that free F2 to drop back a couple of places given he's of no use whatsoever to us. Possibly Shanahan too.

I have them taking Frederick or Swittas spot.

Either way it increases competition which can only help

Yep Switta not the youngest player on the list either and breaks easy.

Bolton is probably a bit more up on the flank and in the middle than your traditional small too, be good to have someone to rotate with that.

Watching the Lindsay clips on YouTube and he reminds me of Jake LLLLyod, with a bit of Gaff. Just running to open space and taking short safe kicks. Not damaging, not taking ground, clean footy. Borrrrrring!
The list is in good shape now. Have a go at some X factor. If Berrys gone like to see Hynes or Hannaford at *14

Thank ****. Everyone remember this so you can post it all over the site in every phantom draft. Although, I do think its now West Coast everyone will send him to.

Listen to the interview, I don’t think Walls is spinning anything, their key objective was to get Bolton and that’s rightly what they did. He didn’t say we would definitely use the pick, and it depended on who was available come draft night.

FWIW, Matt Clark (who absolutely has cause to spin) said something similar, picks in that range are like a pick 7/8 most years.

Seems in line with a pretty consistent theme from most recruiters. We of course won’t know for 5-6 years, but what Walls said is quite credible.
