2-3 years before draft eligibility:

"Oh he's gonna be the best player from this draft."
"Our guy's gonna go pick 1."
"We'll have the best FS/AC/NGA prospect in the draft pool."
"Let's take all or as many as possible."

Year of draft eligibility:

"Let's not have him too high. Gotta save some points for later on or next year."
"He better not play too well or else we're gonna have some thinking to make. Do we prioritise this guy over that guy? Do we go into the open pool and pass on our prospects?"
"OH SHIT! He's gonna be taken high" or "he's gonna slide"
"If we trade for this player, the prospects we want we may not have the list spots for."
"We have too much of this type."
"We don't have enough of this type."
"He's too tall" or "he's too small for what we want."

Am I missing something?

Someone on the 2021 Dogs board saying we shouldn't match Darcy has lived rent free in my head ever since.

May it live rent free in that person's head too.

Do not even wish this into existence.

Would be such an Essendumb thing to do.

Glad we finally have a few academy kids coming through again. Prevents our recruiters from playing silly buggers with our round 1 pick.
Have South supporting mates who agree - you might even get someone who can play football!

If this plays out - we'll have nicknames ready. Riley will have to deal with "Ronley" "only the lonely" or "Illinois" very quickly.

Hawks will have the T**ty Man, I see. Poor M Whitlock will be judged against T**ty and "Ludicrous" Ludowyche his entire career!

You can basically select those two knowing they'll work out well.

Jasper Chellappah's 10 to watch has landed. (His employer is ESPN.)

  1. Dyson Sharp from SA.
  2. Zeke Uwland from QLD.
  3. Willem Duursma from VC.
  4. Daniel Annable from QLD.
  5. Cooper Duff-Tytler from VM.
  6. Fred Rodriguez from WA.
  7. Beau Addinsall from QLD.
  8. Louis Emmett from VM.
  9. Riley Onley from VC.
  10. Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves from VC.

Jeff White's kid next year

Does anyone know roughly when Kalani White will nominate Melbourne or Gold Coast. I know he's going to be training with Melbourne and Gold Coast over this pre-season but will he nominate soon after or wait until closer towards the draft?
Like, what's normal?

Had a bit do to with them down on the coast and I'm 99% certai if there was a choice to be made, he would be off to the D's.

However, I would be surprised if either club made a play for him. He is not particularly good, and the continued selection in various elite programs does nothing to dispel the claims of nepotism for kids involved in northern academies who have fathers from southern clubs.

Talls can develop at different rates though, and there is definitely something there - but he is miles off it currently. Barely got a kick in local u19s this year.

I heard Dyson Sharpe has borrowed Bailey Smith's note from his doctor saying he can't move interstate......3rd hand info of course ;)

A player I recommend observers keep an eye on from WA is 184-186cm midfielder Luke Hallett (EP).

He was tucked away in PSA most of the 2024 season, playing only 7 colts matches but showed his class with a 27 disposal game v SD (Round 12) and a superb 26 disposal effort v EF in terrible conditions in the last round.

He's one of the mids that can genuinely match it with Fred Rodriguez (SF), Toby Whan (SF), Sam Swadling (WP) and Blake Kelly (SD) and I don't say that lightly so I've pushed him up to number 8 on the WA 2025 list having gone back through some footage.

He was also named in the WA 18's summer squad so his stocks are rising fast.
