AFL aren't going to have North have a home game at Optus and give us Richmond twice mate

That looks probable now.

Double ups against Richmond, WC, one of the SA teams hopefully the Crows, probably one of the NSW teams (GWS in Canberra?) and 2 of the Vic teams I'll guess St Kilda is one of them.

A home Thursday or Friday night game in the first month of the season would be nice too.

Do we assume that we are in SA either the week before or after Gather Round like the past two seasons?

it's probably going to have the biggest margin of any game in gather round. Hardly prime time viewing for anyone but Freo supporters.

WC i believe played in Mount Barker last year so makes sense that they would cycle back to AO this season.

I really think many people are so blinded for their hate of everything the AFL does that they done see the big picture.

Fremantle playing anyone in South Australia except a Adl or PA will never draw huge crowds. So doesn't matter which ground we play on the TV audience will be the same.

The benefit of Freo playing regional areas in Gather round is for any travelling fans to experience those areas. Barossa is a HUGE draw card for wine lovers and cheese lovers. If i was in Australia i would definitely go there. take a few days of work to enjoy it.

As for the timing of all the other games, it is more about trying to get biggest TV audiences they can.

What Freo need is to play top 8 sides more often to improve ourselves against the best. Reaching finals if we play only low side could well mean early exit.

Lets go Freo . Win anywhere, win any time

We're in Adelaide for gather round. It will be a day trip to the Barossa, because we are going to games on Saturday too. As a result, it doesn't matter how nice the area is for wine, it'll be bus up and back. As such, it would have been nice to play in Adelaide (or Norwood).

Didn't realize Carlton v West Coast was such a huge draw

That was a request from Freo since the players bonded so well during the covid hubs.

50/50 whether we requested it again after 2 heart breaking losses this year.

Sunday in the Barossa then Friday night against the Crows at Adelaide Oval would be a good fixture IMO.

How many finals games are played in the Barossa? In Launceston, Norwood, Alice Springs? This is the thing, Collingwood play every game at venues where they play finals, and that experience is cumulative. Who's now played 3/3 gather rounds at Adelaide Oval, the only potential finals venue? The two SA teams, Collingwood, Carlton, Geelong, Melbourne and Essendon. Get stuffed VFL

Your point is valid but not sure on the conspiracy theory. How many Freo supporters will be at Gather Round compared to Carlton and Collingwood supporters? It's an 8 hour drive or a short flight from Melbourne so the Vic clubs get a lot more supporters at Gather Round.

Yes but that's the same excuse given for every iniquity in the AFL fixture - commercial considerations mean we consistently have to accept the large Vic teams get a competitive advantage

I don't think it's as much of a conspiracy as it is a reality. We're just a tiny fish in the AFL pond. Consistently winning and being a bit more of a drawcard is really the only thing that might push the club up the pecking order. If we finished top 4, I'm guessing we'd have had more of a chance at being fixtured to play a twilight/night AO game next year. We unfortunately don't have the luxury of being treated well regardless of the quality of football we're playing.

In saying that, I think we can still be salty that the club's fixturing and travel fortunes are much more heavily tied to our place on the ladder than Carlton or Essendon for example.

With the Gather Round game on the 13th of April we'll either have back to back games in SA again or the Derby the next week after Gather Round. Our Len Hall game will be the following week, probably on Saturday the 26th of April.

Would i be right this game is on 9:35am WA time if Daylight Savings still in place when Gather Round is on.

Or has it passed by then.
DLS finishes on Sunday the 6th of April, so the week before Gather Round
