I asked the question last year, How can you have a bye when you haven't payed a game! Six months without playing a game, other than a couple of scratch matches.Still only one bye.Others get two.
We didn't get our only bye until I think it was round 13 last season.
Last year they got it wrong by spreading out the OR byes too much. Seems like this year it will be done by round 4 so imo zero advantage for those teams.

Given round 5 is Reacher Gather Round, if we're doing the week over east that would be either round 4 or 6.
With a Sunday game for Gather Round, if we do it, I'm almost certain it would be round 6 on the Saturday.

When teams are staying over they've always done Sunday first week, Saturday the next - us and WC last hear, North in WA next year.

West Coast and Fremantle will host five of the nine Sunday night games.

AFL trialing Sunday night games as the new "prime time"
Oof. Rural members are going to hate that. Nothing worse than a 2-3 hour drive home at 8pm on a Sunday night.

Yep. Round 7 is Len Hall so round 6 away it will be.

Not sure if the numbers mean anything.
They don't have Adelaide in Opening Round/ Round 1.

Have Saints in Gather Round but listed as 15 here.

Definitely sounds like a home game though
Bloody sneaky giants

HS reckons round 1 is @ Geelong, 1:20pm local on a Saturday afternoon
Yep, Geelong get a full high intensity game under their belt with opening round and then a 9 day break before playing Freo at 10.20am WA time. Annoys me more than it should this opening round. Especially when we get a team coming off a game two years in a row.

They should try everything to make these teams play each other in round 1. Brisbane vs GC, Sydney vs GWS, Hawks vs Essendon, Geelong vs Collingwood

When will the club/AFL realise that they can give us Thursday/Friday night footy away from home and most people would prefer it. Two Thursday night games at Optus is such a pain in the ass.

I want those games for something to watch and relax coming home from work at the end of the week. Not having to figure out how tf to get to the stadium with no public transport running.

Perhaos if enough people cry enough salty tears on the day we can all float to the stadium on a barge.
Honestly these Thursday games against two big teams are great. They're exactly what our club would have wanted and lobbied for and shows we're being listened to.
Hang on is this one barge we all have to float with our tears or individual barges? Really unless it's the latter it doesn't address the logistical issue. Plus it introduces a few if its own.

I can walk to the stadium from work so tbh I’m fine with Thursday and Friday night games as long as the stadium buses run after the game to take me home.

Only problem with those games is that we suck at playing in them.

Oh definitely one barge. Noah's Ark is the loose inspiration for my thinking here. One outstanding issue is who we all pair off with to procreate. I've said **** you to a lot of posters on this board, but that was an exclamation, not an invitation

Not sure there is a better thread for this - it probably isn’t quite the right one but whatever.

I’ve been thinking the last few days - In 2028 when there’s 19 teams do we ask the AFL to NOT play in Gather Round.

If Gather Round was here I’d love it but I really don’t see what benefit there is for Freo playing in it unless it’s in Perth tbh.

I love that we're playing Geelong away in Round 1, **** it, give us 6 tough matches to start the season, I wanna see us tested right off the bat.

Agree, Cats did start last season like a house on fire but their draw was soft with bad sides, and the good sides they played were the ones who started the year poorly.

One advantage we have is the coaches can fly to Brisbane to scout the Cats, see what they have changed over the offseason that they may not show in the scratchies.

Gives us a chance to get our nose in front of a direct top 4 competitor, and the cattery holds some good memories for Freo.

Time to blow the dust off the old anyone anywhere anytime mantra.
