Hopefully we've worked off some of the dust and cobwebs over the first two rounds and we can bring some of that excellent pressure and slick ball movement from the win over Geelong. Should win if we're serious, though the lowly clubs from 2024 have already shown they can be competitive if their opposition gives them the opportunity. Hoping for a ruthless win based on system and effort... but will settle for a win.
  • Henry had a run in the VFL and may be ready to come back in, but does Collard automatically make way for him? He showed a lot of energy in round 2, applying chasing and tackling pressure we haven't seen from him in his VFL stints. Plus got on the end of a couple which doesn't hurt. Said bobbed up for a couple of goals in the VFL as well but might not be quite ready for the AFL yet.

  • Stocker will miss with concussion, so we need to make at least one change - plus another if Clark doesn't pull up. Caroll and Travaglia both put in strong showings in the VFL to make a claim for senior selection. Caroll maybe ahead based on being an established mature player, but the need to develop Travaglia, plus his ability to rebound from defence may see him get the nod. Boxshall was slightly quieter for Sandy, but has put together a great preseason and would also be a welcome debut.

  • Cordy didn't play at any level this week, so the impressive Caminiti should rightfully retain his spot in defence. Schoenmaker put on a strong show for Sandringham, racking up 31 disposals, so he may be recalled as another intercepting/rebounding option. Alternatively, Hastie might also get another chance.

Don't think we make any changes other than the forced ones. Would look at Hall and O'Connell if we do.

Garcia for Clark
Arie/Travaglia for Stocker
Henry for Hall who moves to sub.

Sharman comes in if he’s right to go, you’d think.
Yep. Too much weight for Keeler to take as the single tall forward up there and I think Sharman will absolutely benefit from having someone take the best key defender.

Hall was okay but not great and likely make way if Henry is good to go. Garcia comes in for Stocker and one of Travalgia or Carroll comes in for Clarke if he (likely) doesnt come up good.

Selection will be interesting. Realistically, neither Collard or Keeler are physically up to AFL level yet but if you can get away with that against anyone, it's Richmond. Having Sharman alongside them would help immensely, too. Keeping them in would be a good way to fast track development even if we probably have a better chance of winning if we bring others in. O'Connell hasn't set the world on fire but I can't see him being dropped after that mark. Surely Clark needs a week off after only playing 30%.

I wouldn't be too surprised if we don't make any unforced changes.

Out: Stocker (concussion), Clark (inj)
In: Sharman, Carroll

B: Webster, Caminiti, O'Connell
HB: Nas, Wilkie, Sinclair
C: Hill, Steele, Jones
HF: Higgins, Sharman, Wood
F: Collard, Keeler, Owens

Foll: Marshall, Mucrae, Windhager
Int: Garcia, Wilson, Byrnes, Hall
Sub: Carroll

Also wouldn't be surprised if Trav or Box get a gig over Carroll.

With all that said, Ross could always drop the kids and keep Clark in as sub. Sharman, Henry, Hastie for Keeler, Collard and Stocker wouldn't surprise me either. I'd prefer to see Henry build some form and fitness at Sandy for at least another week though.

Sharman and Henry are two players that make the team instantly better, but after the win, and the fact that Henry hasn't played much footy, and Sharman (as much as i'm a huge fan) may be rusty...I'd give them a game together in Sandy. Richmond shouldn't be taken lightly - I don't think any team should - but Keeler, Collard, and guys like Hall and O'Connell need a decent block of games.
Keep the changes to a minimum after a good win.
Arie, or Hastie to come back in for Stocker...and Carroll for Clark.

Henry was barely going in the 4th quarter. Don't know if he was managing his workload but he looked stuffed. Hall was excellent the week before. I wasn't at the game but I imagine that he played a stopping role on one of Geelong's rebounders. He seemed to be sticking tight rather than running into space like last week.

Carroll is probably the only Sandy player that looked like he could move up seamlessly. Ari had big numbers but they give him the ball every time and Trav was promising but looked a tiny bit off the pace. He looks like he'll adjust quickly but his kicking looked rushed and messy. Boxshall and Said were good without being dominant.

I rated Collard's game. He stayed engaged and wasn't lapsing in concentration any more. He's light years away from where he was last year. Gang tackles, chasing, smart positioning were all on show. I honestly thought we'd blown a pick on him. I want him to stay in the side now.

To me Carroll is an ideal replacement for Byrnes or Stocker. He looks ready to step in. Richmond score mostly from smalls and mids so having a nimble accountable small defender go down isn't ideal.

If Collard can turn into a player then that's huge for us and I also liked what I saw. He stayed engaged for the entire match and chased, harassed and celebrated with the others. Sounds like a low bar but it's the first time I've seen it. We all know he has the skills.

Just gotta nail this game against the tiges. The following two weeks we'll be in Adelaide as underdogs with the chance of almost a free hit. Pinch one of those and oh my... but even losing those two games in SA, I'm sure most of us at the start of the season would've taken 2-3 considering injuries and the fixture.

We're still too short. So if Sharman is OK to go, he comes in for a small. Part of the Geelong comeback was due to us having no get out long targets for long stages late on Saturday night.

Let's wait and see on Clark. But assuming he's out, Garcia into the 22 and probably Carroll in as the sub. Henry one more week then back for the games in Adelaide.

For sure we should give Collard at least a other game, if not a block of games. Not much you can ask of a 3rd(?) game small forward than 2 goals and pressure throughout.

I reckon Lance will come on leaps and bounds with a bit of time in the team, he already knows how to get on the end of goals, he'll be even better when he figures out how to be an actual target

Happy for Lance to stay in until Butler is ready.

Keeler is an interesting one - he's probably the guy who gives us a legitimate 2nd ruck option to give Roma a break, but got pushed around pretty easily and wasnt really a factor when we searching for long key targets late in the game. He also lets Michito be settled as a key forward which, when Sharman comes back, will look super dangerous with those 2 as leading targets.

Henry plays if he's ready - even if it's as sub if he's short of some miles in the legs....you don't keep a Rolls Royce in the VFL for long.

I haven't heard anything about him, but I'm curious about Darcy Wilson....he dissapeared after half time (3 touches), not sure if he picked up a knock or anything like that but might be worth keeping an eye on this week.

I dont mind the idea of Travaglia debuting this week, after a decent hitout in the VFL. He's highly rated and getting some exposure at senior level can only help his development this year - his limited minutes in the pre-season games showed enough good traits.
