Draper in requires a very big shift in Ryan's gamestyle into a role which most people lament him for, which is his speed by foot, so by playing Draper I think will be a net negative in terms of a team aspect. While I agree Draper is a great talent and it would be nice if he plays, there is also major flaws he should work on like his bodywork under a high ball and his engagement with his forward at any time really.

We need rebound more then anything from our D50 and Wagner while errant by foot, provided most of that for us. If we shuffle Ryan into that role it will be long bombs to the corners of the 50 and less drive and dash down the middle of the park. All for the sake of development that Draper can get through the WAFL with no doubt plenty of chances through injury and management.

Draper is just number 1 reserve for all of Ryan, Pearce and Cox.
Could Draper become what was proposed for Chapman, the tall wingman?

I do have a fear Longmuir may have us chipping around down back again if we lose a runner.

Walker and Clark would be the running smalls, Draper and Chapman running talls. Sharp can will back too.

Walker can only be a running small if he gets the ball in hand first since he’s a lockdown defender. If he chases the ball like Clark does and we turn it over his man will have 6-7 every game. Wagner needs to play for that reason

So in a situation where our defenders are playing our forwards, which matchup would Wagner have that allows him to run off?

The one where he plays on switta. Plays up the ground doesn’t hurt you on the scoreboard easy match up
Yep, not sure if we’ll see it during match sim as they don’t usually play A team forwards vs A team backs, but that would be the match up, Walker on Bolton and Clark on Freddy (that would be fun to watch) Chappy on Sturt is another good one. Pearce on Amiss and Cox on Treacy would be interesting, Ryan on Jackson is a bit of a mismatch as Ryan uses his nous against second rucks, but I think Jackson would be just too athletic for him, Draper would be a better match for a forward/Ruck but not many teams run with 3 genuine talls which is how we get away with only having 2 genuine tall defenders.

I’d play Chappy on Jackson like he played JCam and then Ryan can play on a small and peel off for the highballs

I wouldn't think so personally, at least not under JLo with what he expects of the wingers.

I agree although would say it's not JLo telling them to chip it around it is the players lack of dare to do it under any form of pressure, which Wagner and Clark have in spades and Walker has been improving at.

If Chapman really gets going on his rebound like most think he will i think Draper could start getting a look in in terms of balance in the back half.

Longmuir has an awesome array of talent in defence, plus some depth. If they aren't following the coach's game plan it's up to the coach to fix it. I mean, that's a huge part of the job description.

Still think you need a real runner who can break lines rather than a 3rd kpd, Ryan will probably take the 3rd kpf if the oppo have one.

Chappy is very good at changing angles but not sure the overlap run or those 20+50 plays are his go. Would be awesome if he can do it consistently, he has the leg.

Especially important against sides who cover the middle and force us wide, to get some speed on the ball and try to get over the back.

I do wonder if Draper has some run and carry in him, has some skills and doesn’t mind taking some risks with the ball. Ala the lizard.

Defense
Talls: Cox, Pearce
General: Chapman, Ryan
Runners: Clark, Walker

Massive Decision: Draper or Wagner.

Solution: Draper in best 22 and Wagner 23rd man.

Attack:
Talls: Treacy, Amiss
Ruck/Forward: Jackson
Medium: Sturt, Frederick
Smalls: Bolton, Switta

Midfielders:
Ruck: Darcy
Inside: Serong, Young. Fyfe
Inside/Outside Brayshaw, Johnson
Outside: Sharp, NOD

Yes its too tall but I think Wagner as the sub address a portion of that concern.

I'd possibly lean towards Raz instead of Nat, who could be managed or in as sub.

Just a little thing: Frederick is listed at 180cms. He may not play as a classic small, but can't have him as a medium either.

Ok. I'm going off draftguru

Likely outdated.
.
I'm still not sure I'm calling that a medium forward. 188-192 is around medium for me but playing style is as someone who could work up to a third tall. Sturt if Fyfe for example.
Yeah, acknowledge that 183 is still pretty small for a medium, Emmett was 186 which is probably the cut off point in my mind. 186-192 would be my definition of “medium”

add arm length. People need to measure to the highest point of reach not the top of the head.
In a forward line points of difference matter a lot and come in different shapes and sizes, often include agility, leap, speed, rat cunning. Long arms too. Sticky mitts, annoying attitude, physical aggression.

Working every aspect that gives an edge.

The big value a top line medium forward can provide is being difficult to match up on. Frederick has that, but it doesn't make him a medium forward.

Come on mate, let us 183cm (but probably shrinking) people at least be called medium & not small.
After all, back in the day (mostly juniors) I played every position on the field, just not very well.

You make a good point.

Not sure what to do with Fyfe.

I really hope for his stake he can get his body right but having a preseason surgery is not good.
there's no hurry. just needs to get his body right for September with a few games to get in form so he can play the grandie and get his medal before retiring (Crawford style). Ras to get games and we get an answer one way or the other in the meantime. He earnt the chance for his efforts at Peel.
