Not bad. Pretty close to what I like but I reckon Caldwell comes in for the Shiel/Hobbs spot.

Does everybody include Reid because of his great body of work previously? I think he needs to play consistently at VFL before he plays seniors. 10 games minimum to get his mind and body in some sort of condition to play regular AFL footy.

Like quite a few of on field positions with our side it will depend on pre season. We will lean towards youth where possible. They could play Hayes/Reid round 1 if fit after a solid pre season.

Started last season at CHB and appeared to be the incumbent when healthy. It will either be him or Hayes that get that spot

Yeah he started last season at CHB but didn’t last one game. We all want him to succeed but his durability doesn’t give me much confidence. He can look a million dollars on the training track and in practice games, but that’s all they are- training.
He needs game under his belt in VFL.

What has Hayes shown in VFL to warrant inclusion? Has he been the best KPD in a single game?
Consistent, continuity, improvement over the season. Even added some extra strings to his bow (intercept marking, rebounding).

When he stays in his lane and keeps it simple he can absolutely become a staple in the D50

Not sure why some are just assuming this.

Rounds 23 & 24 we were still opting for senior guys over youth. Would be an absolute drastic change in approach

Doesn't deserve to be in the R1 team
When you pick a speculative pre-preseason best 23 surely you base it on the players being the best version of themselves. The best version of 2MP is a 50+ dead-eye goalkicker. When we’ve just lost a player who kicks 40+ you’re sure as hell looking at who will replace those goals and Wright is on our list in the peak years of his career. You might as well be saying he doesn’t deserve to be on our list (as opposed to a speculative rd 1 team) if you don’t envision him at his best.

Overall feeling fairly confident: having 8 spots up for grabs with likely AFL standard players is a nice position to be in.

Remaining needs Wing/3rd tall forward

I wonder if Prior could work up to a wing in the VFL, if not even on ball as he'd be an established body at the level. Open up a spot for a Matt Foley or co in the VFL

I would still dearly love a marking small (medium preferable) fwd to develop at VFL level.

I think Prior is a real chance to be D7 on the AFL list to start the season (Currently have cox in that spot)

I have Loul in as a defender but he played some wing and forward last year so I think he’d be the most likely guy to move should we want to fit in an extra defender.

We’ve still got 2 spots to fill after prior so will be interesting to see how that pans out. An extramedium/ tall defender wouldn’t go astray

And like you said X factor forward is a need

Im not sold on Baldwin despite him being asked to stay and train. Maybe a ploy to keep him as a VFL option

I thought he was better than Lav last year.
Main issue is he’s had problems with availability and with Reid also on the list you probably don’t want two guys with Durability concerns at the same spot.

You really need good VFL only guys once the seasons 5 rounds in and there’s 8 guys hurt

This is a really good effort at both senior and reserves side.

Add to the VFL side the following and you've almost nailed it;

Matt Foley (HBF / BP)
Cam Nyko (wing / HFF)
Jack Peris (small fwd / mid)
Jarrod Eckersley (HFF)
Solomon McKay (utility)
Nick Quigg (HFF / mid)
Charlton Offermans (25 year old utility)
Noah Scott (??)

Assuming Will Hoare is returning tour as well which soilidifies our spine as well
