Yes. Because the VFL season started after the AFL season and after Reid got injured, so after Lav replaced him.

He did play the VFL practice game during the AFL round 1 though.

I feel this Lav didn’t play VFL OR wasn’t best 23 at the start of the season discussion is on repeat every couple of months.

A fit Reid and Ridley makes our backline so much stronger. Likewise if we end up moving Merrett back it becomes a lot more attacking.

Not sure I am thinking Bryan and Hobbs will not be playing. I know it was December but Nick was clearly the number 1 in the pre Christmas match sim.
As far as Hobbs goes there was only two games when he was fully fit that they di not select him. If he did not get injured he would have played all year.

No 2MP..??!! We just lost Stringer who kicked 129 goals over the last 4 seasons with us - 2MP is not far behind with 120 goals- or an average of 30 per season. Do you think Draper/Caddy/Bryan are capable of kicking 30 goals or 30+ goals this year? I'd say thats highly unlikely so for now 2MP must play...

Well Wright was hardly in great form last year so how is he a must play ? 19 goals in 14 games. 5 games with zero goals. Best return of the season was 4 against the no defense Kangaroos. Wright has only kicked 30 plus goals twice in 9 seasons. Why do people think he is just going to do it again ? Yes he kicked 50 3 seasons ago but that was 3 seasons ago. Take that season out and his average falls away. His career is 1-27-31-5-21-29-53-19-19. I liked his first year with us when he was second ruck / forward. 29 goals was a good return for that role but that was with Hooker plying FF for most of the season as the stronger marking target. 2022 was very good but it has been an anomaly.

Bryan will not kick 30 goals but in the games that Bryan played and Draper was at FF the return for Draper was 5 goals in 4 games so he can kick 25 which is around what Wright has kicked other than the one break out season.

Caddy should be better and has the scope to kick 25 if he plays a full season.

Langford should kick his 40 odd.

Kako should play a fair bit and I would say he can cover 15 to 20 goals.

I think they cover the Stringer goals by having a more balanced forward set up and a few guys chip in a few goals to cover.

Would be great if I am wrong and Wright fires again but he simply has not looked like doing it since he did his shoulder. He was bloody horrible in the VFL at the back end of the season as well.

Hobbs was the one who missed out for me as I thought Tsatas would go past him. I almost had him in instead of Prior but needed the extra defender.

Wright has kicked 30 goals only twice in his life.

He can't mark the ball and is a liability if it hits the ground. For me I would rather persist with Draper in that forward/ruck role.
