F1 2025 Chinese Grand Prix - Race Weekend thread

Yeah, well I’m talking generally too.

When it comes to F1, what happened last race, or last year counts for nothing.

Especially when it comes to drivers at different stages of development.
Right, so if Lawson out qualifies Max next race is he generally speaking quicker than Max

Of course he's not.

Where exactly was he quicker this weekend mate?

Sprint Quali? No

Sprint Race? No.

Race Quali? No.

Race? No
Fmd can you lot not read?

Seriously? A ridiculous false comparison. And you know it.

These are two drivers emplotyed on equal terms and equal salaries and encouraged to race - reflecting where McLaren now sees them in their team - as equals. Despite the fact Norris has 129 race starts and Oscar 48 race starts.

It's the second race of the current season. Both having won a race each.

To say that one is generally quicker than the other shows a genuine lack of understanding of F1 racing and where both drivers sit right now because it is based on a backwards looking assessment and not reflective of 2025. That might change but it is not reflective of where we are now.

As we head into Suzuka there are only 2 things that can accurately said about Norris and Piastri.

1.They are both really quick, both equally capable of qualifying for pole; and

2. Both are equally capable of winning an F1 race, depsnding on circumstance, car performance and a luck of course.

He was quite clearly talking generally speaking Lando has historically been quicker than Oscar more often than he hasn't.
I'm a massive Oscar fan but these lot are next level homers....

I hope Oscar destroys him but one race doesn't over ride their entire history as team-mates and Melbourne was the simple point I was making, poorly obviously..

Yeh unfortunately certain elements of this thread/board are very much "straya good, england bad" levels of analysis when it comes to F1.

People were already calling McLaren favoritism in this thread 3 laps into the race. Ridiculous

How do you figure that? Responded to someone talking about oscar winning the drivers championship this year by saying Norris is STILL (I.E Right now not historically) quicker.

If he had of said historically norris has been quicker and its too early to tell if china was a one off or if he has genuinely closed the gap I can bet your bottom dollar he wouldn't have gotten 95% of the bites.

That Lawson interview was very defeated-he sounds like a guy that thinks he's getting sacked soon. Looked like he wanted to cry tbh. I've said previously I don't think he's good enough long term but he's one of the nicest guys in the paddock so you want to see him succeed.

I disagree with what most of Bernie and the sky team say most of the time but this time I have to agree with her. I think red bull stuffed up not giving Lawson most of last year to rack up testing miles (in an old Max car) like kimi got at Mercedes.
It's very clear that Helmut never wanted Danny ric back in the RB to begin with and wanted him out even before the start of last year (horner admitted as much) and helmuts refusal to change tack meant they had to throw Lawson in the RB which hasn't really prepared him to drive a vastly different and difficult red bull. Now red bull will say they were worried about the contract clause and losing him-i don't buy that-there weren't many obviously better seats available (I doubt he wanted to go to Sauber etc) and if they offered him long term security he would have been happy to sit out the 6 races.

The issue is Helmut is stubborn and refuses to ever change his mind. In reality they should have left Danny in the car-he was past his best but a safe pair of hands and wouldn't have crashed it, would have kept giving good info to the engineers. And they could have spent the whole year preparing Lawson for Max's car while they were working out how to bone Sergio. And it would have given Lawson a much better prep.

Horner is a nice guy (much like lawson) but the issue is he's never been strong enough to tell Helmut or Jos to GTFO out of decisions that are outside their lane. You see similar issues at afl clubs with past greats whose decisions in the present are crap-and if they keep them involved it's in ceremonial roles and they GTFO them out of having real authority in the football dept or big strategy decisions. But red bull struggle to do this which is part of their cultural problem.

Clearly everyone since DR has struggled to drive a red bull that is hard for anyone except Max to drive and they haven't given Lawson a fair prep to do it.
Ironically enough Helmut hating DR as much as he did might be the thing that ruins Lawson career (unless another team takes a chance on him in 12 months if he gets fired).

Means Doohan finishes above Gasly, his position is obviously now safe!

I doubt it. Briatore (who should have a life ban from the sport anyway) will bone him because he wants colapintos cash. Unless doohan is scoring points every week he's gone at the mid season break.

Do redbull not test their potential drivers in their cars at least?

Based on lawsons comments post race it sounds like they do but only briefly and not as much as other teams.

Should've used an emoji to emphasise the sarcasm.
Maybe Jack paid off one of the mechanics to make Gasly's car underweight ;)

He is clearly grooming the team to be sold, cutting costs becoming a customer engine user and employing paid drivers, all points to alpine disappearing from the sport in 1-3 years

I do agree the engine program change and flavios history make us think they are leaning that way. Either way doohan won't last with them it's just a matter of if another team will give him a go or he goes the way of mick Schumacher.

No chance he gets another go, just doesn't have the race craft. His junior career mimics the start to his F1 career raw speed is there but whenever he gets into traffic he finds incidents.

Probably stems back to his carting days in Australia, would have expected everyone to just move out of his way as the son of Mick and never learnt how to race properly wheel to wheel and now it's biting him in the arse.

He's only done three races but not crashing the car helps
