Don't think contracts mean much these days, and I'd be a lot more interested in Lord than Derksen personally. Not sure there's a lot in this though, from the article:
The 23-year-old’s absence from the line-up is understood to have Victorian clubs with previous interest, including Melbourne and Geelong, keeping tabs.

Nah there was another kid that trained with us. Short, quite solidly built. Maybe a left footer (could be wrong). A neat kick on him. Low centre of gravity. I feel like he may have played for Northern Knights but I could be wrong there also.

Toby Sinnema is who I assume you're talking about. We wouldn't have access to Northern Knights players in our academy I wouldn't think.
I think there is a very real chance he will nominate the Suns but he won't make a decision until closer to draft time.
I think a lot will hinge on his projected draft range, and the Suns situation (i.e. whether they have enough draft points, list spots, and their situation with other NGA prospects).
If he can fall through to the Suns then staying in Queensland is a no brainer. Better weather. Staying close to family and friends. Less media scrutiny.

Plus its still March, he doesn't need to decide now.
Has only shown glimpses this bloke. Has potential for sure. But how many VFL quality tall forwards can one team have? We've gone our quota surely! Need small forwards more than talls. Would love another defender or two also. May is just about done and our small defenders are mostly poor.

Definitely agree top quality smalls should be the focus, but think of it this way:
Lord wouldn't cost us a huge amount. Turner could go back. And these players are OOC this year - Fullarton, McDonald & Kentfield. Would mean, with Goody's habit of picking 3 talls, then we'd just be taking the 3 most in form out of JVR, Jefferson, Johnson and Lord. It's not a gun lineup by any stretch, but it's an improvement on what's available this year and is good enough if we fix other things. Then you have Petty, Lever, Turner and (hopefully) Adams to take over fully from May with the chance that White comes in as a developing back as well.
Leaves us the cap space and currency to go after a gun small forward or two, and there's been 1 or 2 small defenders mentioned already.
