Quality talls are hard to find outside of the top 15 or so picks.

I don’t mind a strategy of trying to cycle through early 20s talls like Derksen and Lord who show some promise to see what they can do. If one in four becomes a genuine player it’s worth it. They’ve also had that 18-22 years of age body development under their belt.

But just don’t hang on to clear NQRs like Fullerton or Schache too long to clog up the list.

I know you're as negative as me but we are so ****ed lol. Lose today and we will be odds on fo start the year 0-4.
We got GC next right? Then who?
I think we'll win as much as I hate the club. The way we play minimizing risk means we will grind out wins against most teams. I'm expecting us to blow them away in ¼ and get a comfortable ish win. I just don't want it. I don't want this to be vindicated in anyway.

Small ground with our extra tall forward line how could we not win

The dumbest thing is I can remember so many forwardlines that had success going small with role players because their talls weren't up to scratch, but I can not remember a single forward setup that went tall just to be tall without having actual quality talls.

Remember when Richmond sucked for ages with Vickery and Griffiths, punted then for a bunch of nobody smalls and won 3 flags lol. Or Freo when they had shit hogan, McCarthy and some other campaigner like Lobb etc. I would bet good money that marks inside 50 for KPP are at an all time low and marks for small blokes are at an all time high because of zones. You don't need height and strength anymore you need positioning and legs to get to the space. Apart from Hawkins and Curnow there's no KFs I trust to dominate 1-1 and Hawkins has retired

Agree. Even the dogs under rocket eade and then bevo made it work with success. Pies under McRae also.

Yeah they did it with Barry Hall and Johnson and the pies had what Cox and Mihocek? Don't think Mcstay even played in the finals did he?

I thought Jefferson wouldn't make it cause he looks a bit piss weak in the air but I changed my mind completely. He's probably more suited to the modern game cause he can play small. Probably more useful than JVR especially how we play

Darcy and Thilthorpe look like stepping up this year. Hogan dropped nothing back half of last year too.

But I agree most forward lines should be based around smalls with quick ball movement so they are as isolated as possible, with only one or two big boys.

They might step up, they'll still kick like 35-50 goals or something. Like it's just not enough of an impact on the game anymore. Like with us, I don't want a key forward, I want Fritsch to be given space to work. As a ground and aerial threat he's one of the most dangerous forwards in the league but instead we pack it with talls, make him skirt around the edges fighting for scraps so that Turner, Johnson, Petty, JVR and whoever else can get 5 disposals and take 2 marks

Fritsch is so annoying when I'm hate bonering Melbourne. campaigner will just drift next to a pack, pick up a ground ball and effortlessly snap a 35m goal of one step and our coaching staff goes yep love it, how do we make it ****ing hard for him to do that more often

Let's not play to his strengths (1 on 1, on the lead, set shots), let's not get him any set shots and make him earn his possessions thru needing to win free kicks with defensive pressure, push him up the ground whenever possible and have him trying to snap miracle goals under pressure with no space when hes inside 50.

They actively go about trying to highlight the worst parts of his game.

Great idea 💡 , I'm surprised more teams don't try and make their highest paid forward as useless as possible.

Last year I did think we should suggest to Bombers that they trade up to pick 5 for their first and future first with a bunch of late picks for points going back.

May not have been accepted but I feel like that is 2 top 6 picks this year for Bombers and potentially 2 top 4 picks. Rebuild is coming for our team and quantity of high picks before Tassie gets here is important.
