zzzzzzzz too many repeat match ups. the only two games that should be locked in for ANZAC weekend year after year is the COLL V ESS and Rich v Dees

I understand wanting to grow the game in the northern states and I think it’s great that the AFL are always looking to grow the game.
Does having an opening round with only half the competition playing and only playing in QLD and NSW actually grow the game anymore than a regular round?

Agreed, its pointless as it is. If you're going to compromise the draw further to milk the NRL not playing there than don't half ass it, play all games in the North. Half the games in Qld half in NSW.

Why? We have a large following in Queensland and given the two games we played against them this year we make perfect sense.

The word I'm hearing is Collingwood will head to western Sydney to face the Giants and Essendon will head to the Gold Coast to face the Suns in Opening Round. Both games will undoubtedly sell out. Apparently Brisbane will open the season with a Thursday night game against Geelong (which will also sell out) and I don't think Sydney's opponent is clear at this point. Maybe Hawthorn?
