2025 Draw - hoping for MUCH softer

Neil Craig dislikes this 😆
Was at that Gabba game….and went to the brekky the next morning that (I believe) Jenny organised. Met a few of the players but especially wanted to ask King Carey what he thought about some of our young forwards like Watts and Jerico. His blunt response “yeah, they’ve got some work to do” haha. I basically wrote off their careers after hearing that comment.

Extraordinary turnaround by Craigy going from 141 point loss late season 2004 to minor premier in 2005. Just shows what a good coach can do.

That game was an absolute shocker and sitting around Brisbane supporters who were more interested in getting sauce on their pies than watching the game.

The next week we played Kangaroos is an absolute snore fest - 5 goals each (we didn't score one in the first half).

yep remember it unfortunately...

Adelaide 0.3 0.10 2.17 5.19
Kangaroos 1.7 1.8 2.10 5.12

ps 2 goals and 17 points at 3/4 time. surely must be close to some sort of record for shite converting for three quarters

You should've thrown in some investment tips.

As others have said, the last thing we want is a soft draw, over inflate our position in the comp, give Nicks another contract.

We've seen that happen at Port year after year, AFL gift them a soft draw on a yearly basis, Kenny gets them in the finals and they crash and burn when they have to play a couple of good teams in a row.

I'd be happy just to play our away games vs MCG tenants at the MCG and Marvel tenants at Marvel.

That would be a huge improvement on the normal shitshow we get served up.
Furthering that, I notice they (Pt) always seem to get lucky with good players being out when they play them. So even when they win.. it's a soft one.

Hoping for:

No regional games. We've done more than enough. Ballarat games are terrible for the Melb-based fans who otherwise turn up in pretty good numbers and have been losing the opportunity to see us play live for years thanks to St Kilda (Cairns), Hawthorn and Norf (Tassie), Melbourne (Alice) etc etc etc.

Yet more exposure to the MCG, ideally against a Collingwood, Carlton or even Hawthorn again

Don't really mind if we have to play in Perth twice to get the above to happen. We can rest Tex those weeks. Better yet the AFL could schedule us there two weeks in a row and we can get the whole thing over with in 7 days.

Not specific to us but I wish they'd bin the Opening Round nonsense (I know this won't happen). Huge disadvantage to play in the second week against a team with some miles in their legs.

A slightly fairer draw in terms of our doubles, but not too much fairer. I want us tested against good teams where I can hope we win (Pies, Lions, Hawks, Dees, Blues), rather than nervously watching us play teams where I just pray we don't lose (Norf, Richmond, West Coast). Beating up on rebuilding teams is how you end up going out of the finals in straight sets anyway and there's nothing worse than that, just ask the perennial pretenders down the road.

Most of all I'm hoping the AFL (still) believes in our continued improvement next year (despite all evidence to the contrary in 2024) so we keep playing more Thursday, Friday and Saturday night games.

An interstate side that finishes 15th (2.5 games behind 14th) isn’t going to get a great fixture in terms of Melbourne games. I’d be expecting Ballarat and Tassie again.

A trade off for the MCG GF contract extension should have been the non-Vic teams only play MCG tenants at the MCG to give these sides a reasonable amount of games at the GF venue.

Even a few Marvel tenants vs nov-Vic teams to play at the MCG to get 4 games a year there.

But our soft **** admin would never say boo to the AFL to push what should be our agenda.

My firm view is that interstate sides should only play at finals venues when playing in Melbourne. And if you can't get to the venue via a single plane trip and a short drive, then you don't play there.
