Looks like we will get something like last year. The fixture gets more compromised as the years progress.
We have to wait a few more weeks to find out

Year 2024
OR: 10 teams got the bye. I think they may finish with 2 Melbourne teams on the Sunday. So maybe just 8
R2 was 2 teams
R3 was 2 teams
R5 was 2 teams
R6 was 2 teams
R12,13,14 the midseason bye rounds. Also, the proposed start of AFLW in 2025
R4 Gather round in Adelaide all teams complete.
Likely 21 Thursday night games

So glad i stopped playing fantasy footy a few years ago

Planning a trip to gather round with a mate. How hard is it to get tickets. We want to head over Wednesday and fly back Monday. He is a Port fan so Sunday night blockbuster to finish will be good.
If you buy during the members pre-sale window you'll be fine, you'll need the members barcode before then.

4.15pm Twilight game for Saturday? Weird choice not to put that as a standard night game?

Daylight saving
We must play to fit into the Victorian viewing time.
Thats even on a round to highlight the northern states.
Geelong would probably scream at having to play a home game on a Thursday night at 6.50 pm
How would our fans get to the game on time during a workday etc etc

Opening Round 2025

Thursday, March 6

Brisbane v Geelong at the Gabba, 6.50pm AEST (7.50pm AEDT)

Friday, March 7

Sydney v Hawthorn at the SCG, 7.40pm AEDT

Saturday, March 8

Gold Coast v Essendon at People First Stadium, 4.15pm AEST (5.15pm AEDT)

Sunday, March 9

Greater Western Sydney v Collingwood at Engie Stadium, 3.20pm AEDT

415 in early March in seq sucks big time

Are we again being dripped fed one random round at a time until the draft?

The AFL are pathetic with the faux excitement they think they're creating with the fixture announcement.

I'm dying to know what round 17 looks like; please AFL relaease that round next Monday so we'll know.

It's AFLW finals and the draft is thursday week. Why are they drip feeding fixture leaks now at all!

If you want to release it all so people can book tickets etc then all good - but giving out a few rounds at a time is so annoying.

Having a limited teams "Opening Round" is madness.

Multiple early rounds with byes is madness.

Drip feeding the fixture is madness.

Andrew Dillion and Laura Kane PLEASE less is more > KISS.
Only in Australia; imagine how this would go down in the US, Europe, UK etc.

Who would really stand for it. Those two are just so bad; I have heard from a close friend whose adult child worked at the AFL until they resigned a couple of months ago, that AFL HQ is a pretty toxic environment and just completely and utterly woke AF. All of their antics, including the fixture release is evidence of that.

Hopefully everyone can make it there from work/school commitments for that opening game before the flag is unfurled, with daylight savings still in play at that time. I personally was hoping for the Saturday night fixture for the first game, but can understand why they'd want us opening the season too.

Yerp AFL fixture is woke....
I know (well, I'm pretty sure!) you're being tongue in cheek here, however I would argue the AFL is pretty childish really, in that its fixturing has a lot of growing up to do.

We need to get to the point where GWS v Gold Coast is no different to Collingwood v Carlton, in that if they are in the same spots on the ladder they are treated exactly the same.

We need to get to the point where the mug punter at home can sit in their lounge room on 1 October and be able to "calculate" exactly who their team will be playing next year. Sure, I'm happy for commercial considerations to govern the "when", but the "who" should be transparent and non-negotiable.

We need to get to the point where every team plays 3 (and only 3) AWAY games at the MCG every season.

We're still a long way off all of the above and I don't see it changing for decades.

God, this stupidity is poisoning my brain, I misread that as "woke/school commitments".

One idea I had without totally thinking it through , but between the AFL and AFLW teams at each club, then clubs should play each other home and away in the season for a total of 34 games per club i.e 23-24 games for the men and 10-11 for the women and even have additional rivalry round to cater for state based teams playing each other twice in the mens (not sure if the womens is the same).

May also assist with the madness that is the McLelland Cup or whatver its called.

Even if the fixture isn't; imagine feeling the need to suspend an umpire for dressing up as Bin Laden because its offensive.

Perhaps the AFL with their BS statements should actually extend that to who exactly it is offensive to?

The whole manner in which the AFL conducts itself with literally everything in the past 18 months is chilling.

I personally find it more offensive that they are fining and suspending him for dressing up as Bin Laden knowing full well that if he dressed up as Bush he'd get off scot free and Bush was responsible for killing more innocent people than Bin Laden ever was.

the fixture can be improved but calling it 'woke' is to put it kindly, laughable.
