Hawks putting lots of pressure on Hawks. Will be an interesting year.

How was Newcombe going early when Hoks couldn’t win a chook raffle?
You never shy away from the pressure. Its the only way you do great things.

Didn't start the year well just didn't click as a team.

Stats are great but they’re used to provide context, using them as the base of your point isn’t really ideal.

Everyone knows how good Oliver is at amassing the ball, winning the ball inside and with his hand skills, but everyone also knows he’s not the most damaging compared to some others.

Hence why looking at someone’s stats without watching games closely isolated it is hard to provide an accurate representation.

My point that’s been missed is that I believe Newcombe is a star level player, I think he hasn’t shown the consistency over an entire year but will, and has shown enough even without the consistency to demonstrate why he is. Which is a subjective opinion of course, but I think the difference is the way people rate players, and their categories. Look at commentators, how many people do they call stars? Hundreds.
Oliver was so ineffectual he's won two coaches awards, only matched by Ablett Jr, 4 Best & Fairests, and 3 All Australians.

Is it mandatory if you follow Hawthorn that you don't have a clue ?

Is it mandatory you missed the point?

He’s an incredible player, as was Mitchell, even Priddis even tho some don’t like him, Neale etc.

Neale is a gun for example but it’s well known his damage isn’t high for the possessions amassed. This goes for Clayton too. The point is that they get a high number of disposals but that’s not what makes them good, or not all of it. They’re also brilliant in other aspects, like their hand skills, cleanliness, inside game and for Oliver his ability to use his power and size.

Others like Bont, Petracca even JHF.

Explosive, powerful, strong, use the ball well and damage per possession is high. Atleast capacity wise.

Different types, and Newcombe is in the latter group.

Hence naming the average disposals is marginally irrelevant due to the damage per possession.

Still don't get why so many have Freo in their top 4. I don't see it..

They have a good list, but I don't think it's enough to get them to at least a prelim.

Wasn't surprised by their dip, lost a fair bit of experience over the last 2 off seasons

Think they will improve in 2025, fighting for a spot in the 8

Well that was their situation this year... and they lost that fight. I don't see that they'll improve enough to now make it, with just Bolton as their main addition (who wasn't worth 2 first round picks)

There are only 4 teams that I see as incapable of making the top 4.

Fremantle are capable all things going well imo... though they are not in my top 4.

They were top 4 this year until they lost Pearce, Treacy and Darcy all at once

Indeed.

They have as much upside with their young talent - Young, Treacy, Amiss, Johnson, Frederick, Jackson, Walker - as any other team in the competition.

I haven't even included Serong and Brayshaw - they just need to keep doing what they've been doing.

And Bolton in that team could be a game changer.

Have a good look at how many games were missed by Carlton's top end players - they didn't suffer too much on that front.

And look at how they performed when De Koning missed a chunk of games.
"Top end players" like Walsh, McKay, Curnow, Weitering, TDK, while not missing a heap of games, all played injured.
And that was in addition to their list having the second most games missed through injury.

Do you think Carlton are the only team that have players play with injuries?

I think you need to have a much closer look at the injury narrative at Carlton.

We've heard it all before Fadge. Stop polluting every thread with the same rubbish posts.

The Blues were destroyed by injury in 2024 as were some other teams.

With a better run of luck we'd be better off, that's pretty simple to understand.

Are Roos expecting improvement from their u25 or will they Plato and your only expecting improvement from your trade additions
You take the number 1 key back, key forward and ruck out of any team with such an even comp they will struggle.
We did fine without our CHB Cox for 6 months and won games missing Pearce and Darcy but take 3 out of your 5 big man spine makes it hard for most

Kudos for a poster being honest with their own team rather than picking them 5-10 spots higher than they should.
