Over how many years?
At least 7.
Oh I agree I think he’ll sign too. But why wouldn’t he get something close to what he’s worth? I don’t see guys like Bolton, Jackson, Darcy, Fyfe up to last year, leaving big $$ on the table. Why should someone like Andy carry the can for them all?

Thats ludicrous. Even over 6 years, that’s still over $400k per annum.
Also if he was going to do that (which he’s not) he would have extended 12 months ago. He’s hardly dragging it out till the last year of his contract only to accept massive unders in any case.

Mitch Cleary was taking about this on his podcast one day last year. Someone called in with a question about players taking massive unders for team success. He basically said it’s hugely overstated and cited Geelong as an example, reckoned a few guys may have given up $50 or 70k per annum at times maybe.

All these lads have professional agents representing them and they aren’t foolish enough to do a Scottie Pippen nowadays.

This is completely at odds about other reporting about numerous players, usually ones courted by North or Saints.

In any event, if you don't think Andy would do it, you've probably never known someone like him. Those people don't operate the way 99.99% of the population do.

So how come cellar dwellers like North struggle to attract bona fide stars?

Slightly different scenarios there.
Normally the players who are reported to turn down a move to teams like north actually want to leave their existing clubs.
Dan Houston is a good example. Reportedly north were offering him more than Collingwood. It was never actually stated how much more though and I highly doubt it was $400k per annum.
Regardless however he’d made up his mind to leave Port no matter what, for what ever reason.
When it comes to a player leaving and picking a new club, they will often take less money to play for the glamour club in Melbourne.

Others use minnow clubs to leverage better pay from their own clubs. Andrew Gaff and Dustin Martin did this very effectively in the past wii oh th North and GWS.

Also the 6 or 7 year deal thing is a factor to consider. Andy is very likely not going to be still worth $1.3 m a year or whatever it is, aged 32 to 34 for example. But if the club includes those two or three years in the original deal at a projected value of $400 or $500k a season (like Fyfe and Sonny now aged 32, a good example) it dilutes the overall cost of the deal over 7 or 8 years. But of risk for freo if he breaks down of course, but flexibility to move money across several years too.

The highest value years are the next few years for all these guys. Ages 26-30.

However the biggest clue he’s not taking massive unders is that he hasn’t signed yet and it’s the final year of the contract. Why wouldn’t he just have signed 12 months ago if what you guys suggest is true?

If Harry Perryman is really worth $950k per annum god only know what a player like Andy is worth. Significantly more without a doubt.

Reckon he’s regretted leaving already

Fremantle star Andy Brayshaw is still “working through” a new contract with the club, according to close friend and teammate Caleb Serong.

But Serong joked he has been pestering Brayshaw every day about becoming the latest big name to commit to the club.

Brayshaw will be one of the game’s highest-profile free agents if he remains unsigned later this year, but he did reveal in October he was “very happy” at the club and said progress had been made on a new deal, despite rival interest from Victoria.

The Dockers already have midfielder Hayden Young signed on the league’s longest contract, until 2033, Brennan Cox, Josh Treacy and Sean Darcy until 2030 and new recruit Shai Bolton until 2029.

Serong says Brayshaw is still as intent as anyone on bringing the rising club its maiden premiership.

“Hopefully he can follow Youngy’s suit and sign long-term and that would be great.

“I know he loves being around the club and he is as committed as anyone to bring the club its first premiership.”

Brayshaw said in October he hoped a deal could be done soon.

“I had a chat with my manager not too long ago and he’s in talks with the footy club, so hopefully it gets done soon,” he told 7NEWS.

It comes after The West Australian revealed the Dockers are in the box seat to land homesick Melbourne forward Kysaiah Pickett, while they have also been linked to Sydney midfielder Chad Warner.
