Since you asked Mrzohs here is what i my eyes saw

Thursday morning. The big day rumours of a big intra. a slight chill in the air when the sun wasn't out. Breeze was blowing directly across the ground. The box hill boys started coming out onto the ground at 8:50. There were 7 of them. The same 7 that have been training with us this pre season. We also had 3 umpires not 2.

Speaking of the the intra it was 6 10 minute qtrs with 2 minute breaks at qtr, 3qtr and 5qtr time. 6 Minute breaks at 2qtr and 4qtr time

Dear: Not here

Blanky: USA

Lewis: USA

Butler: Also didn't make the camp. I missed his absence on Tuesday

Rehab:

Frost: Was doing lots of running and sprints did some drills and played i think 2qtrs of the intra.

Ryan: Did most of the drills did some running and then played i think the last qtr of the intra

Moorey: Did all the drills but did not take part in the intra.

Mraz the same as moorey did all the skils but did not take part in the intra.

Croc: Came down late had a bit of a limp with strapping on his right foot. watched on from the sidelines

Sic: Did all of the skills and played 2 qtrs of the intra then joined frost in running afterwards

Newk: Everyone's seen the footage but you didn't hear the impact geez it echoed around the ground. Newk had done everything prior but went off in the 2nd qtr. He was seen at the end with strapping on his right thigh.

Ginni: The great news was he did everything and played 3qtrs before of the intra before doing some running and recovery.

Gunston and Breust did all the skills. Gunners played the majority of the game Breust might have played about 3 qtrs all up

Impey: Did everything and played 4 qtrs before coming off and running.

The warm ups were as usual then there was plenty of goal kicking and as usual ground ball gets.
We also had a game of running a small soccer ball by hand the length of the arcs from forward 50 to defensive 50. It was just about link up and fitness. Hill using his pace in this still trying to build his aerobic capacity as the end to end stuff is continuous and doesn't stop. He did have hands on legs hunched over a few times. Day, newk, CJ, Scrim all doing well

To be honest i can't be bothered with going some of the other drills which included the full ground kicking drill where they transition the ball etc. There is so much to cover in the intra

Intra started with a surprise of Serong playing on the wing on Morrison. He did that for two qtrs had a great tackle on Newk who was dominant in the first qtr. His tackle was rewarded. The first bounce was clean take away for Reeves team and it ended up with a mark inside 50 to Nash. Yes Nash Who from the boundary kicked truly to get the first goal of the game. This first bit of play only enraged Newk who then moved to oppose Ward who was damaging on the outside with Day and Nash doing all the damage on the inside. Frenchie went onto Day and the next few center clearances went the other way.

There were some sensational pieces of play through the middle of the ground with precision kicking and it ended up in a score. Newk had started to dominate and in one such transition in the 2nd the ball was handballed over newks head and it was in disput inside the center square about 60m from goal. Newk and Battle both ran for the ball. Battle ran of his man in a great piece of play crunching Newk and turning the ball over. The hit could be heard around the ground and Sam was seen smiling as Newk lay hurt on the ground. Everyone at the ground knew it was a corky nothing too serious.

Ball came inside on the far side and Morrison took the mark 40 out about 5 metres in from the boundary. It was going to be a difficult kick for right footer as the wind was blowing across the ground but as Morrison does so often he nailed the set shot Much to the cheers from his team mates.

Nashy who was already having a great game now took over and was dominating his size imposing in the middle of the ground and elsewhere. Play of the day was Nashy and i couldn't believe it to be honest taking a leaf out of the Newk playbook of the goal against the bulldogs in the elimination final. Nashy read the ball and ran through the stoppage clean take and a right foot snap split the middle. Brought a huge roar from coaches and the players on the ground. heavin forbid Nashy becomes a goal kicking threat. He had several other shots on goal that he missed and also took an intercept mark in the backline. I couldn't believe what i was seeing. For me he was clearly best on ground for the game.

JB and TB are a formiddable combo in defense. Both read the ball so well and do try and defend by getting to the ball first. It was almost criminal having Sic there with them **** me he took about 4 or 5 marks in a row on the wing and in defence with them around. I am so looking forward to what this backline produces. Sic still a bit off the boil defending as he hasn't done much of the physical stuff and just got back into it. Impey was as usual zipping in and out of traffic and running it. Took a few contested marks over his opponents one over the wiz.

Speaking of the wiz. Its hard to keep him out of the game. His ability to twist and turn and accelerate from standing still and then take off for a mark. It was a nightmare down there as a defender. He looks bloody primed to have an impact. Kicked a couple and gave off quite a few.

Frenchie started slow ended up having a good day. The longer the game went the better he got. One piece of play was a frenchie special where he dodged and weaved out of trouble just accelerated out of the contest and hit Chol lace out who unfortunately missed the kick.

Dimma was pretty lively up forward and kicked a few 3 or 4 i reckon. Got some silver service from gunners and one particular kick from Mass. It was a ground ball get in the forward line and Mass couldn't turn back onto his left. Kicked on his right just clearing the defenders and having dimma run onto the ball. I heard Sammy yell out thats a great kick before all of us saw the result and started clapping. Gunners and Punk kicked goals themselves and it was interesting seeing Will McCabe forward in the last. Will had a really good day in defence providing some real dash out of that backline. He took a contested mark in the forward line but sadly didn't convert in blustery conditions.

Ginni had his goal for the day. He spent his time being the link man which drew praises from the coaches box. He ran down to the wing and sometimes half back to be a link in the chain of the transition. He only played 2 and bit qtrs but is looking good and seems to be over his adductor issue.

A funny little by play between uhr henry and TB well mostly TB was when they both lined up on each other at the start of the 3rd. Barrass went behind him and motioned to pull his pants down indicating the boy was in for a torrid time it brought a chuckle from me.

Huss started well and drew some praise from Sam early in the game but faded i feel as the game went on. This brings us to Ramma. Battle mostly picked him up early on was just out bodying him out of the way but Ramma could have had a great day. He kicked one or maybe 2 but missed quite a few set shots. Hit the post with one could have had a real day out. Took a good contested mark on the wing as well running down to help in transition.

Meek Vs Reeves was a good battle but Meek definitely took the points was much more effective around the ground and kicked a couple of goals one where Reeves was off the ground late in the game with a bandage around his calf. Plenty of great plays from our unheralded. Seamus defended well and had some dashes across the ground his disposal let him down a couple of times.

Hill who was playing in defence was pretty good in the air and can cover the ground still hasn't learnt the ground ball game yet but opposed to the wiz in one contest matched him for speed and punched the ball over the boundary. Hill was moved forward in the last qtr and ended up taking the mark on the final siren 40 out on a slight angle. This had to go right hand goal post and let the wind drag it back in. Andy collins yelled out to Mass to help Hill with his set shot. As he came in the ball was kicked to right hand goal post and drifted in on the breeze to the loudest cheer all day as all the coaches clapped and the boys on the ground got around him a really great end to the proceedings.

After the intra was over most of them did some 200m sprints and after that a few did some slow laps of the ground. Watching that left me exhausted. The boys were running up and down in the one spot in the last. At this point i decided to leave and make the trek back home.

Till next time go you mighty hawks.

Great report, what was the midfield rotation/teams and who stood out in there, obviously newc is always going to kill it. Who was the best out of the wards/mackenzies/hustwaites? Sicily back to the loose back role?

Thanks so much for this! Nash still has so much upside, can't wait to see what he can do this year

Great report, what was the midfield rotation/teams and who stood out in there, obviously newc is always going to kill it. Who was the best out of the wards/mackenzies/hustwaites? Sicily back to the loose back role?
Honestly the mids changed jumpers often with other players. Sometimes they were playing on each other. Other times they were team mates. If I was being really critical then I would go frenchie slightly shaded ward who shaded huss. There no loose men in modern football. Sic had a man he just backs himself to read the play.

If Nashy can add goal kicking to his repertoire he's going to be an absolute nightmare matchup for opposition mids
If he can take marks over his head then he would be a nightmare matchup when he pushes forward. It's really the missing piece in his game.

Did battle just become the big dawg on campus.

Thanks for the write up, getting very excited

Sicily was in midfield? Cant say I’m surprised. This teams version of silk or rough

I posted about a month ago that it was a real weakness of his and a potential problem. Glad to hear there seems to be progress, hopefully he gets some confidence out of that.

We don't need him to be Dusty but if he can get to the level where more often than not he has the confidence to actually take the shots he gets and convert them we're laughing.

There have been times in the past where the ball falls in his lap 30m out on his own and he's looked around for a handball. So I'm delighted to hear that he immediately snapped and scored from a stoppage when he got the chance today.

I hung on every word. Top-shelf write-up T4P.

The irony of Nash evolving into a goal kicking threat after becoming a midfielder because he wasn’t impacting up forward. 😂

Great hard work by Nash to continue to add strings. And a credit to our development program under Sam.
