I've heard that Moir has done some freakish stuff at training and just looks over as if to say, I know...

Celebrate The King GIF by Manchester United

No kicking fans in the head, please.

Unless it's * fans.

Or Collingwood.

Or Richmond.

Possibly Geelong, Hawthorn

Or....

It's why I think we will pick Durdin if he proves his fitness. He is the only one of them that I would class as a Weitering type (not as good) with big body, strong and calm. As Windows said that anchor type.
I think Phillips could be that too. Personally hoping for him even if he doesn't have the training spot.

Sounds like Walshy is taking on the role of toughening up Jagga and bringing him up closer to AFL level.
Massive leap from where he came from getting 42 possessions against the amateurs.
Would have no idea of the pressure he'll be facing in the Big league against the Big Boys ... so the more Walshy dishes out the better off Jagga will be when jumping in the deep end.
Well Jagga did get 31 touches for the Tigers VFL team this year against men at windy Williamstown.

He was there. Very little lead mark stuff on display today which is his go to. Seemed fine. Always feel like he is 5kg too light.

His improvement as a player has bee huge this last 18 months however his body shape has stayed the same. Either he hasn't invested the time to strengthen himself up (an AFL program + Rob Innes will fix this) or, he simply has that body shape that doesn't really allow for strong guns (think Jarrod Grant at the Dogs circa 10 years ago).

If Durds is fit I think he could be a massive surprise, the bloke can play, I think he’s grossly underrated.
Not going to be star but I think he’s grossly underrated, we don’t need a star, we need a competent side kick for Weiters & I think he’s actually more then competent & will strengthen the team

I dont think Durds is underrated. Hes good when he plays. People are just fed up with him never being available. Ultimately he's a depth player who is never available when we need him as depth.

Phillips please.

Yep, that can change thou.
The proviso is that he has a very good preseason and his body is right.

Durds looked great playing high up the ground and participating in transition into the forward line a few years ago, which may just give credence to the observation that he is a midfielder trying to fit into a small forward hole. Hope is stays fit throughout the year because he has a nice skillset and what appears to be a positive impact on culture.

wrong Durdin

It can but history says it's unlikely. Hes been injury prone his whole career and not just his calves. Almost to Marchbank levels. I wouldn't trust him even if we can nurse him through preseason. Plus his upside isn't high enough to warrant it.

Nothing against him personally. I just think it'd be a mistake to sign him. Give another guy a go.

Collingwood too.

If you have pressure on the ball and a good team defence, defenders shouldn't have to face many one on ones anyway.
100% correct.

It's a team game and this is why Sydney were so good last year. They're not a team with many, if any, superstars. But they're very team oriented and full of role players.

Get this balance right and you'll be a very successful team. Add one or two big game superstars, and that's the recipe for a premiership IMO.

Notes:
  • cinc missing completely (Ramsay was wearing his number). So too S Durdin.
  • fantasia was there and did nothing at all
  • TDK out of the rehab group
  • Acres, MCG, Charlie, SOS, Cotts and little Durds largely rehab group. All ran heaps and strongly. Rehab for conservative reasons only. Okeefe also joined them for the most part. Was running fine. He has put on nice size as i said previously.

Jagga got beaten repeatedly (predictably) by Walshy in one on ones. Walsh was a beast today. Trained fully and awesome. Jagga was otherwise good. I am looking forward to a proper match sim.

Cerra, Walsh, Cripps and George are all FLYING. In great nick and ready to rumble.

Denver Granger Barrass moved really well. Caught my eye with his kicking too. Looks weak one on one though. But def looks good otherwise.

Motlop smashed them (along with Billy Wilson) in shuttle sprints and may have been my pick of the session with his movement through traffic in drills. Saad looked top speed too.

Cowan and Ollie great today.

One to note and watch was Matt Carroll. I need to pay more attention to him in future. Has a strong build, power, pretty clean. He impressed me today but I need to really focus on him - looks to be aiming for a back flank role.

Kemp endurance running looks career best now. Ready for that repeat running third tall forward role.

Moir running looked solid. He looks to be improving.

Ben C kicking was uhm...... His brother showed his leap on a couple of occasions with some nice marks.

HOF 2 years away at best. Lord kicking could do with some more punch. Tends to float them too much. Looked good otherwise.

Nothing much else to report. Happy to take questions.
Interesting notes on DGB and Carrol, which brings me to my question, who’s in the lead for the remaining two list spots based on your viewing?

Is it lazy to assume that given Phillips and McMahon have signed with the VFL team, that they are behind in the pecking order?

BT ... .that you? ;)

I like Sam Durdin but his body is as reliable as Marchbanks.

If I go back a bit, I suspect our fortunes back in the 2010-13 era may have been better had Michael Jamisons body held up. Not sure why we have had so many injury prone key position players.
Don't think I've ever seen S. Durdin actually train in any open training session. Just runs slow laps.

Not sure who is in the running…DGB and Carroll so far if Carroll is not listed

DGB, Carroll, McMahon, Durdin got the official train on spots.

Then you have VFL listed guys like Phillips who we could technically choose but hard to say how realistic that is.

I love McMahon and think he deserves a go but struggle to see it if SOS and Kemp are both playing forward.

You would assume that our LM already have made their decision, but won't make any signings until the end of the SSP period in case of any potential LTI's.

I doubt the pace and tackling pressure any VFL team can dish up is anywhere near what a Collingwood or Geelong serve up, but let's wait and see if Jagga can do a Nick Daicos and slot in just nicely to the pace of the Big league.
Of course I'm hoping Jaggs runs riot right from the hopoff.

Not sure why Durdin is any different to the other consistently injured players we let go.
Time to move on from Durdin and give someone else a opportunity, unlikely at this stage of his career that is going to change relating to injury and games played at senior level.

Get rid of all constantly injury prone players
