Here's my latest iteration.

-Bolton has gone out. Looks like he's going to play predominantly as a small forward based off match-sim/training reports.
-Kerch has gone out. Played midfield in match-sim/training, which I don't like. I want him seagulling down back if I'm to pick him.
-Perryman has come in. He's training with the mids, looks like his wish of midfield time will come true.
-Cerra has come in. I think he's worth a punt at his price, especially with Walsh's injury news.
-Maric has come in. The news of him playing down back makes him really enticing, as there's lots of opportunity for kick/marks down back for the Eagles. I don't like Curtin at $160k (even though the Crows have a decent run of matches to start the year)

If we get enough good-lookin rookies that can't be ignored, my premo watchlist consists of Flanders, Sheezel, Bont and Butters, so maybe 1 or 2 of them will come in.

BTW I have Maric locked TF in at F5/6.

Kid is a better kick than every useless plodder on here. Hurn 2.0

16k bank.

Three players i want to touch on...

Martin and Richards (my opinion) have it in them to shoot the lights out and go 115.

I read somewhere this week that Richards had no pre season with the mids and was thrust in there a month or so into the season. Can't wait to see what he can do now he's had time to adjust. A couple of games watching him this year i thought he looked a class above everyone on the field and was the difference.

As for Martin, i think he has it in him to overtake Merret as the bombers best player. Very bullish on him.

Steele will be helped with the Macrae inclusion. He's always had to carry the load and opposition tags being a one man midfield. Far to often opposition rucks will tap the ball anywhere but where he is and that's going to be harder to do with another heavy lifter in there. I think he can go 115-120.

Omitted Travaglia and Schoenmaker. Both will make the 150k cash gen but at their prices i am finding better options.

Of all the midfields I've seen, that's certainly one of them. ;)
I can hear all the pings from here!

Love the Perryman pick. Looking forward to seeing him in action.

Nice team, but round 3 might be an issue where you have 2 donuts in defence and all up 6 players missing that week. Round 12 will also see 6 players missing.

Round 3 is an issue, but it's almost innevitiable that one of those 4 either get injured or fail, so I can trade one. It's also best 18 scores, and with hardly any rookies on-field, it doesn't hurt as bad.

Round 12 is irrelevant. Never ever taken notice on the main byes with my starting side, the team will change drastically until then.

For a slightly different view to my awesome co Eagles supporter Here2tellyouwhy.

I've had Maric in and out of the side. Yes, they'll be using him as one of the outlets but I don't think he'll be the prime distributor like God of thunder thighs Hurn was.

He's a very good kick but he's not Hurn, Jetta, Houston , Sicily level. Nowhere near it.
In-fact, I thing Gov is the best kick in the side and especially down back.

He'll make money but I expect more 70's than 90's.

Also, for those that have Flynn, it's still early but he got hurt at training yesterday again.
He's injury prone and role not guaranteed....I'm a big risk taker and even I'm not starting him in Flex even though the side looks better when I do it.

I love my midpricers but even I have my limitations. You will either win $50k or finish in position 50k starting a team like that.

Thanks for the insights.

I don't think anybody is expecting 90s from Maric, 70s would be great. If he can be part of the kick/mark chains down back and take the occasional intercept mark, he could have a spike game or two and make $200k. Forward rookies are looking weak again.

Curtin/Hewett/Stone/Davidson I reckon

What's the appeal with Curtin, aside from "warm body"? Is he going to pinch-hit in the ruck? $160k for a 200cm 2nd year player doesn't fill me with confidence. Defs won't pay that for a bench spot, so I'd have to be confident in his scoring before I took him on-field.

Can someone provide a short summary/logic for which byes are “bad” and “good”?

I’ve seen people say that R12 is bad - is that because it has 4 teams who play round 0 [edit: this is not correct, sorry for the bum steer]? But aren’t round 0 players helpful (as keepers) because they only have one bye and an early price increase, whereas other teams have 2 byes?

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.
Have a look up at my posts I forget where in SuperCoach board I posted it but I gave a comprehensive breakdown of players pricing, games played and early bye player strategy.

Unfortunately it is not a short read.

I think it was in Strategy Flex Position thread or maybe here.

Basic point is there are two factors.
1. Prices are based off of highest averages.
2. You want the players that score the highest total points over the season, not averages.

You could get a player that plays 2-3 less games but his total score is higher than a guy who plays 23 games.
These players may have 2 byes or miss a game or two with injuries.

Up until midseason byes it doesn’t matter how many rd12 players you start with, it will matter when rd12 is being played. So look for upgrades or even sideways trade options. You could start with 8 rd12 bye players but plan for 4 sideways trades or upgrades. Or you could just use that as the sacrifice round and you then have them with a clear run til round 24.

Don’t overthink the byes but do have a good look at total points scored last season and games played.
Ignore averages as every season some go up, some are topped out, some are bottomed out and some will go down.

Rumours are he's getting midfield time according to Al Paton and the Phantom he's the boom player from the Crom this year

With the mid-season byes, you'd ideally want to, after each bye, trade in players who have already had their bye for players who have not yet had their bye. This way, you mitigate the impact of the byes-by continually adding players who have already had their bye, you reduce the amount of players missing from your squad in each bye week. The problem with round 12 is that, because it's the first bye, you can't mitigate the impact in this way, as there are no players to trade in who have already had their bye. So at least by the middle of the season, you'd want to have few round 12 guys, and then you can trade them in afterwards.

The other reason round 12 is bad is that it has a lot of relevant guys who you're likely to be picking. You want to have a roughly even spread, so if you're locking in, say, all of Daniel, JHF, TDK, Xerri, you wouldn't want to pick too many more round 12 guys.

As for round 0 players, they are a negative because they have 2 byes (every team has a mid-season bye), whereas non-round 0 players only have 1 (not counting their 'bye' in round 0 when Supercoach hasn't started yet).

Very good points here, well explained.

One counterpoint argument to this is I understand some SC Teams are planning of being completed before the byes (no rookies onfield)..

And will be looking at using the byes to upgrade up to premiums.

This might be more of a MPM team kind of plan or hybrid team.

I have had draft teams with only 6-7 onfield rookies. I could easily get that down to 4-5.

5 upgrades by round 12 should be easily done.

I too was overthinking the flex pos, until WaynesWorld19 summed it up brilliantly.

Basically:
It's an on-field position.
It's best 23 scores every week.
Your worst score will drop off.

So with that, it really doesn't matter...
There is one difference though. There’s no flex emergency. So if your flex doesn’t play, you’ve just got 22 on field.

Where that can get tricky is if you have a premo in flex and your opponent has the same premo on another line, they have an emergency come in. So it’s 23 vs 22, even though only 22 score. Suddenly the Tom Green 5 situation happens and you’re stuffed.

So what’s important with flex is that whoever is in that position actually plays. And if they’re a late out, sub them to another line somewhere.

OK which campaigners are still here?

The one player I want to try fit in is Flanders. He'll never get tagged and he's an absolute ball-magnet playing down back or in the middle, I don't think he'll drop much. I'm confident the other superstars will drop and be gettable. The tagger is back in footy, I reckon it'll be even more prevalent this year.
