If Docherty is going to play - it is a good idea to hide him in a forward pocket- he should be a decent defensive asset down there and minimise the cost of his fumbles, missed handballs and awful fluffed kicks...maybe play himself into something resembling AFL form which would be great.
But that’s where we hide Francis Evans

Serious question. Would Evans make any other side in the comp?

Not saying we can't win with him in the team but the fact he is in, doesnt give me much confidence with where our side is at.

Take your navy blue goggles off and that side listed looks extremely average outside of a few stars, some of which are a mile off their best.

Still think we can beat the dogs but on paper that team is awful reading.

Looking forward to tonight. Just be prepared for the umpires to owe the Bulldogs one for being absolutely robbed against Collingwood last week. Good times.

Voss is like a kid with new toys, seemingly has to play with them no matter what.

Last year we were subjected to 15 abysmal games from Orazio Fantasia.

And now it looks like it's Francis Evans turn to run around and do nothing for a year.

I think i'm going to watch Netflix tonight.

Will Evans dominate the game with 30 disposals, three goals and earn Brownlow votes in the process, probably not.
Will he have a specific role to play and do it to the best of his ability, probably. Will he be better after his initial run with his new team mates and game plan, probably.
I don’t expect him to represent our improvement.
I expect that to come from our senior players who to be fair haven’t covered themselves in glory so far.
Good luck Francis. I for one will be hoping you go well.

The fact that Evans played 17 games for Port who finished 3rd on the ladder last year would tend to suggest that yes he would make (and has made) other sides in the comp.

Not sure we have a heap of players knocking down the door to play, hard to drop senior players without pressure from below.
This has been raised before and is a bit of a conundrum.

It’s my view that by not dropping underperforming senior players Voss is setting the example of what’s acceptable and it’s not a good one.

Boyd deserved his spot and I thought white might have got a call up but Voss dropped 2 kids, he could have dropped one of Haynes or Gov who have been very poor, Doc or Fog

They did delist him straight after though 🤣. Was literally the last person listed in the whole comp when we signed him.

So Harry is able to train but not play...

Another one with personal reasons...

I know I'm not supposed to say it because the world is so friggin touchy nowadays...

BUT....

what's he on ... 600 - 700 thousand dollars a year.....

**** me...if I was on that coin I would be out there with two broken legs...fffft

A miserable player with the weight of the world on his shoulders, as any coach will tell you, won’t perform any where near there best.
A small number may respond to the “do it for the team etc” . The majority will just spiral/internalise further making it harder to overcome the initial problem.
Do we wish it wasn’t so, purely from a football playing perspective. Probably.

Would we prefer the issue isn’t resolved
and just kicked down the road, maybe the player pulls out of a final/important game when the pressure becomes too much.

Put the effort in now and invest in the player. They and the club will benefit in the longer term.

All the best H! see u soon and back to your old self.

Was delisted when they did a late 2 for one deal to get Richards and Lucosios later in the trade period and ran out of list spots.

Nobody is saying that he is a workd beater but just can't fathom the vitriol on here for a player who has played one game for us.

Doesn't really matter when he was picked up (although White was picked up later than him) really only matters that he tries his guts out to help our team move forward.

Got nothing against him and wish him the best. Just dont think it says much for the state of our list that he's playing.

Every team has role players. I doubt that Frank would be playing if Harry, Elijah and Orazio (and maybe Corey) were. I think it says that our list is is like every other in that if first team players aren't available then role players have to come in and take their spots.

I think the "hate" for Evans isn't for him personally, he's likely a great dude that no one doubts gives effort even if he's limited, it's more he's once again of a "type" of player seems to always get picked over others regardless of form. Sometimes it seems like Voss is happy as long as a player applies a few pressure acts and runs some defensive patterns, even if they don't often positively touch the ball or kick goals.

Regardless, for our sakes I hope Frankie goes well tonight and the team as a whole. Think it will be a difficult game though.

Doc in the FP is a disasterous idea.

Send him to HBF for god sake.

Release Ollie’s run to the freaking wing.

Don’t play Kemp & SOS in the same half.

We need defensive pressure to stop their rebound.

Doc at FP ain’t the answer!

I personally think it is what Frank Evans represents that brings the vitriol.

  • He’s likely a Voss “captain’s call” in terms of making the list and being selected tonight
  • He plays a half forward role where he doesn’t rotate into the midfield. He’s not high possession
  • He’s in the side for defensive pressure acts and likely doesn’t kick goals

He is the pure embodiment of the Voss gameplan. A gameplan which the players have demonstrated they either can’t or won’t play. A gameplan which many fans think is outdated.

And whatever he does tonight, there will be many of us comparing him with half forwards at other sides who end up with high possessions or several goals in a different gameplan

Nah. When doc turns it over in the fp, they've got to go the whole length of the field. When he does it at half back, they score.

And it is when, not if.

Worst forward line I have seen Carlton roll out in my time. Can it win? We will see.

Our backline is ok, it's a bit on the tall side. Our midfield has enough good players to make this a really good contest. Cottrell on a wing, his record in this position is terrible but he did play his best ever game last week so lets see.

Our forward line lacks class, skill, smarts but it does have mobility. In saying that there is no raw pace there which a really small forward line needs. You can go on about our disposal efficiency but when there is no one to kick to it's hard to hit targets.

Our team is going to have to be careful about how it goes inside 50. We need to move the ball faster and take more risk. Our ball movement runs out of options going forward and we stop allowing the defence to get back. I would be instructing the players to switch less, try and get it into the middle and if there are no options, kick it long to grass.

If we can win games with that forward line we are doing very very well.

When we first recruited Docherty he played forward a bit and did alright. I remember him kicking a few goals but that was a long time ago.
