Who are the forward-listed rookies that will play defence/wing/mid/anywhere other than the forward line? I absolutely hate small and tall forward rookies, they are the worst scorers, are super inconsistent and often come in and out of the side, I want to avoid them completely. Currently got Caleb Daniel at F6 and it makes me happy.

There is a few but probably not many.

Hewitt is a lock will play Midfield $122,800 Fwd/Mid
Paton is an interesting one could play in defence $133,400 Def/Fwd
Sam Davidson mature age and is a very good player. Should get games perfect F8 $113,500

Curtin @ 158k think he might play wing WaynesWorld19

I doubt it .....possible of course

Cumming & Milera to be fit into the side ....one could play the Wing, the other HB ....but not sure who plays where

Curtin more likely FWD / MID .....could play that high HF role ....so could Neale-Bullen ?? ....so could Peatling ??

But the Adelaide mix is currently very confusing ....even where Dawson plays, which maybe more a utility role

Wont play round 1 I read somewhere
Round 1 or Round 0...If its stated as the first round then it will be Round zero and it wont matter as points are not allocated anyway. However if it is round 1 then l might have to reconsider him also...

At first I thought this rookie Malakai Champion might be a piss take but he actually looks like a decent small forward. I wonder if he is a chance at getting games this season. Fwd $99,100

Small forward for the Eagles

Even if he was free, I'd strongly consider not starting him

The type to score 75 on debut, then 55. Everyone trades him in and then scores 15 in his third game, subbed out and is never seen again.

I always thought that as well but Nick Watson was a big miss last year.

There are a few like Stone (GWS) and Tunstill (Brisbane) that will be ok, but need a couple of injuries to get a run in the team.

Cooper Simpson
Loch Rawlinson
Moir
Jefferson at Melbourne probably gets a go at some point.
Jack Martin, Poo Pepper and Lynch will make money if they get/stay on the park
Keep an eye on Ethan Read, who may play second ruck/forward. Probably cheap enough to make some money.

All of these COULD be decent. I'd probably prefer to trade them in on the bubble though, rather than start them.

Nick Watson? From the Hawks? He was also a very highly rated pick #5. Hawks were an improving side before 2024, whereas the Eagles might not have bottomed out yet.

Can't compare him to a category B rookie.

If you started him and he put up a 26, 56, 72, then got dropped, you would have been fuming.

Then he returned at a high price before he did well. No way you pay $270k for him after 1 score of 80, then a bye.

I meant he was good if you started and held him all that time but I know what your saying.

Davidson has been playing some wing in match sims.

And then there is Dan Curtin. The Crows were very calculated and measured as to how they used Curtin in his first season at AFL level. Some of this annoyed fans, but there is a desire to not throw him in at the deep end. But given his size, versatility and ability to move around the ground the West Australian is a fascinating prospect. Another one to watch out for looks to be young defender Oscar Ryan. While he didnā€™t play a game in his first year at West Lakes, coaches are a fan of him and he has further impressed with the condition he has turned up to pre-season in.

Adelaide selected Ryan with Pick No.27 at the 2023 AFL National Draft. A highly-skilled rebound defender with good speed, Ryan is renowned for his toughness and attack on the footy. He forced his way into the Vic Country team and played every game of the 2023 Under-18 National Championships after impressing with the Murray Bushrangers in the Coates Talent League. Ryan averaged 22 disposals, five marks and four tackles per game to finish runner-up in the Bushrangersā€™ 2023 best-and-fairest.

agree with stevebbb

You cant start all the 200k rookies so a small forward was an easy fade. You're not holding him for 5 weeks either. Him making 150k later on the season is fairly irrelevant too, most our teams were done by his peak price.
