Not a single one of these proposed 20th club locations is without massive logistic, marketability or economic barriers. Forget it.

19 teams + a Play-in weekend by 2027.
How long is that realistically going to last? You have to consider that the value of a 20th team is not just in the crowds it attracts, but the TV rights value of a 10th game. The marginal benefit is going to be bigger than the marginal cost for either Canberra or Perth 3, so it will happen and it probably won't take that long.So instead we stick to 19 teams. Use the bye to keep the AFLPA happy for more rest weekends, and allow for Thursday fixtures for the entire season. And with Hawthorn and Kangaroos likely to stop playing homes games in Tas, they could look to other markets that will never have an AFL team (like Newcastle).
Port Melbourne?real answer is for the 20th team to be in Melbourne.
No one's really asking for it, but hey it's the AFL, so who knows ?
no real logistics issues, the afl would be happy for a new docklands tenant and melbourne gets to maintain it's 50% ratio of all the clubs. Win for all (except the rest of Australia).
TBF wasn't Carrara a redevelopment? Macquarie Point is a brand new stadium.I recall Gold Coast stadium was ‘only’ 350 mill

I'm not sure Manuka can be redeveloped all that well, for example but I've only been there once so can't say for certain.

Let’s just say, the space around Manuka Oval is big enough to fit an Adelaide Oval in there.
So if Canberra can get that light rail built to Manuka Oval… and then get a commitment to upgrade it…

You'd figure Canberra is more likely to attract new viewers. Perth 3 only makes sense in the respect that it might prevent West Coast from getting too powerful, which I think is a worthy cause, because no club should dwarf the others, but I don't know if that's enough for the AFL. A Canberra team might not be a financial success to begin with, but any entity needs time to bed in if it's going to achieve popularity, so the earlier they get in, the better.
The NIMBYs around that area will hate it but yeah there’s plenty of room to pop up a grand stand
The light rail being built along a populated route rather than down Adelaide Ave makes too much sense unfortunately
There’s tonnes of potential to liven up Manuka (and even the semi-walking distance Foreshore) with a light rail + more regular footy
AFL run club so stadium discount. Where as Tassie, the tax payers are forced high costs. So isn’t the requirement now including a stadium worth up to a billion dollars unless one exists already?
Precedent

This was true at Subiaco, they don't fill Optus. It'll be a third team in WA. People saying it won't work were probably saying the Dolphins wouldn't work in the NRL because everyone in Brisbane already follows a team.
There are thousands and thousands of people in Perth who support West Coast and can't get a seat at any games. These people will buy memberships for the 3rd WA team and go to games simply because they want to get a seat at the footy to watch games live.
That is a left field answer, de-merge the lions. That would be delicious.
Of course the clubs might get to like the rolling bye, then who cares?
