Great mark, so much for the squib talk.

Still needs to find a right foot (I noticed he did a couple of times in the 2nd after being caught multiple times in the first) as opposition players have figured him out now. Get some confidence in his right foot kicking and he'll make more space to allow him to use his left.

Our composure under pressure was awful at times last night. I can't wait until Heppell spends more time on the ball. We will have a fantastic midfield in the next few year. Watson, Heppell, Myers, Zaka, Stanton add heaps of class to go on top of the bullocking work that Lonergan, Howlett and Hocking can provide. If Kavanagh is as good as the wraps on him then we are going places, especially once they've all been through the weapon's regime!

Everyone knows I love Hooker, but I'd probably push him out. We can't really replace Heppell. I'm not fussed if he never moves into the midfield, he doe a role we needed filled very well

With Phone on this.

Don't think it is necessary for Heppell to play midfield if he is better as a half back.

Looking forward to the delusionals (especially the North flogs who have it in for Heppell) try and talk down his mark in the first quarter.

Just a cheap seagull scared of physical contact hey?

Have a look at Old Skools various reasons behind discrediting Heppell.

It's in the North Way/Essendon Way thread on their board.

I'm all for the move out of the back half once he has the physical maturity to play as a midfielder. Players similarish to Dyson who have been left at half back like Luke Hodge are generally covering holes in a side's structure. We don't have those problems.

In the long term there is no need to keep Heppell out of the midfield especially when Hibberd and Hardingham have proved so adept at peeling off their opponents to help out team mates. As long as Dempsey or Ricky D are back there there is enough skill and creativity.

I love Hepp but right now he would not be in our most important 5 players, would think closer to 10. Watson, Stanton, Fletcher, Zaharakis, Crameri, Ryder, Dempsey, Hurley, Hooker are all more important right now IMO. You could even argue Hocking, Howlett, Davey and Jetta are more important this year. Going forward this will change considerably.

gee I'm not sure about that. On paper maybe you might think that. But watching with mine eyes, without him, we were stagnant as **** from HB through the guts. Really, REALLY missed his energy and disposal. I don't know who of those players you've mentioned I would displace, but gee we're a better team with Dyson Heppell in it

I don't underestimate Heppell's importance, especially in the next year or two. I agree 100% that we are a better team with him in however as far as importance to the team goes this year that's where I think he sits. About 10 at the highest.

Yeah, watching at the ground I really noticed his absence against Melbourne- just felt like we incredibly stagnant coming out of defence and lacked the creativity that Heppell provides.

Hasn't he slotted some goals from 50? and he kicks to the wing a lot of the time when rebounding from defense...i wouldnt say he is a short kick IMO

He does have some penetration to his kicking when he wants to, although I would say at this point he has preferred to play it safer with shorter kicks which might create the impression that he cannot kick a great distance.
