Re: Round 6 Votes - Essendon VS Brisbane

Really? What are you expecting, precise 80 m torps ala Fletch?

His long kicking is just fine and amongst the best in the team I would have thought...

Struggles to kick 45m. When kicking long can often be too elevated, but like I said, he is 19 and all these things will come.

Is one of the best short kicks in the 22.

Every player has their faults, it doesn't make them less of a player, especially if they continuously play to their strengths, like hep does.

I've seen him hit people over 50m lace out many times. Pretty sure his nailed a couple of goals from outside 50 too.

Disagree completely, think his long kicking is a strength rather than a fault, they always look for him to kick down the line to cover extra distance, as they do with both Fletch and Myers. Think his a better long kick than most.

I've seen him drill passes over 50 metres, but I also saw him shank two or three on the weekend.

A bit like Myers in that it can go either way during a game.

Still, I'd back Heppell in 90% of the time.

Re: #21: Dyson Heppell - Not as effective by foot over 50 metres (table tennis)

Has got in the coaches votes in the last 2 weeks when he played defence - Think he played first 3 games in the midfield/wing and last 3 games off half back.

Not convinced that he will be a full time midfielder.

Re: #21: Dyson Heppell - Not as effective by foot over 50 metres (table tennis)

scary to think how much more he can improve especially with our coaching panel
he will move into the midfield at some point id think when hibbard comes back unless one of dyson, hardingham dempsey get injured fingers crossed they dont

Re: #21: Dyson Heppell - Not as effective by foot over 50 metres (table tennis)

Just so we are clear on my argument. I think he is an excellent kick until we get to over 45 meters. The ones he shanks are generally because he doesn't put his foot through.

Struggle to think of a time when he has missed a target short.

Hey the fact it's a debatable topic means we have got ourselves an excellent player.

I love him, he is a gun.

Re: #21: Dyson Heppell - Not as effective by foot over 50 metres (table tennis)

He is not that bad over 50, but he is still as skinny as a rake, and that is proving an issue with kicking, when he builds his core strength up, he'll kick 55-60m easily.

Re: #21: Dyson Heppell - Not as effective by foot over 50 metres (table tennis)

Yeah, I was about to mention strength as the issue :)

Re: #21: Dyson Heppell - Not as effective by foot over 50 metres (table tennis)

I have all the patience in the world. I was mere pointing out that he was an excellent short kick, just still in development in some areas.

Its funny because, and this is only my opinion, we now have a good mix of good short kicks, and good long kicks.

Like Myers, cant kick short to save himself, but when kicking 50+ he is excellent.

McVeigh, Hepp etc have good short passing games.

Heppell has some of the best composure i have seen in a 19 year old, and thats only going to get better.

Kid is one of the best 19 year olds I have seen at Essendon

Re: #21: Dyson Heppell - Not as effective by foot over 50 metres (table tennis)

Has not missed a home & away game since his debut in Round 1, 2011.

So 29 games in a row now. 30th coming up this week.

Durable & reliable.

Re: #21: Dyson Heppell - Not as effective by foot over 50 metres (table tennis)

Does everyone here think that Heppell has it in him to eventually shift his approach to more of a contested style of game? I know it's been under coach instructions that he sets up loose behind play but has he ever had the skill set in U18 TAC football to suggest an ability to play both inside and outside?

I have seen him inside the pack, he freezes time.

Contested - as in a boots and all brawler, busting tackles etc? Probably not. As others have said, will be Pendlebury (finding space) rather than Judd (making space)... but will still be very, very good.

From what I read he played on-ball most of his 18s year, and that was what dragged an otherwise average side to the GF.
We've only seen glimpses (Geelong last year, Dreamtime last year) at AFL level, but they've been encouraging.

Be excited. Very, very excited.

Re: #21: Dyson Heppell - Hasn't missed a game since debut

Not often congratulations are due for a player missing his first senior game, but young Heppell is indeed an exception, what a start to a career:thumbsu:

Definitely looking a bit tired of late, so enjoy the rest & hope that 'knee' comes good quickly;)

Looking forward to the delusionals (especially the North flogs who have it in for Heppell) try and talk down his mark in the first quarter.

Just a cheap seagull scared of physical contact hey?
