So this is my thinking. I am thinking this could be an all encompassing 21st century mock draft. This is we line up every player drafted in the 21st century as an 18 year old, knowing the players they became and we decide who goes where.

For the draft order I am thinking the current ladder

So

Pick 1 - North Melbourne
Pick 2 - Richmond
Pick 3 - West Coast
Pick 4 - Adelaide
Pick 5 - St Kilda
Pick 6 - Brisbane
Pick 7 - Hawthorn
Pick 8 - Western Bulldogs
Pick 9 - Melbourne
Pick 10 - Gold Coast
Pick 11 - GWS
Pick 12 - Fremantle
Pick 13 - Collingwood
Pick 14 - Geelong
Pick 15 - Port Adelaide
Pick 16 - Essendon
Pick 17 - Carlton
Pick 18 - Sydney

and so on for 3 rounds.

The rules are to treat this like an actual mock draft, so pick the player who is either best available or best suits your list.

So my general idea is people will nominate a club they want to pick for, and hopefully we get enough people who want to participate so we don't have any double ups. I hope to go for 3 rounds but we will see how it goes.

Now the rule here is that you are only able to pick players who were drafted in the 2000 draft or later, I know technically 2000 is not the 21st century but these players would have only started playing in 2001 which is the 21st century. I have also made some lists of players who have won the All Australian at least 3 times, but also included some other awards too, but by no means do you only need to select from the list.

You are also free to nominate someone who has been retired for 5 years, or if you feel really confident, happy to include a player who is only in their second year, if you believe they have enough talent to be ahead of more established players. For instance it would not surprise me if Nick Daicos or Harley Reid end up in the first or second rounds despite having very little experience compared to a lot of players on this list.

you could even make it 'drafted 2001', i'd argue, as that was the start of the 21st century :)

but yah, drafted 2000 and onwards makes it 'clean'

With the 5th pick of the 21st Century Mock Draft: St Kilda have selected Patrick Dangerfield.

An explosive, game changing midfielder with high scoreboard impact. Dangerfield in my opinion has been a bit more consistent over the journey than Martin and more damaging at his best than Selwood. He's a fine player to base a midfield around and can rotate forward as well. Could very well end up the leading Brownlow vote getter of all time.

Besides the aforementioned players, I did also consider Bontempelli, Pavlich and Riewoldt for this pick.

Edit: Pav didn't quite qualify did he? Recruited '99.
 
eth-dog sent me through his/her preferences for this pick a few hours ago saying that they would be busy for much of today and he/she did not want to hold things up. So using the top of eth-dog's preferences at pick 6 Brisbane select Dean Cox.

Going for Dangerfield sort of makes sense for St Kilda too as they are pretty short of high quality midfielders who break lines.

As I said Earlier Midfielders who can break the lines are what St.kilda is screaming for.

Both Martin and Danger would fill that void and change the whole makeup of our midfield instantly.

Dangerfield especially as he hit his peak far earlier than Martin. Would provide a more immediate impact.

Well I did intend to go Dean Cox believe it or not...(in the hope it would stretch to the full 22 rounds with the lack of elite ruck options and adds quality to bothhte ruck and midfield at the same time), but...

With Pick 7 in 21st century mock draft, the Hawthorn Hawks select.....

Agreed. Probably wanted someone to get them over the line in finals given the number of close losses in straight sets in recent years.

I get what the both of are saying just that our ball movement from midfield to F50 is rather predictable and atrocious. Dusty can play as a line-breaker and a mid Fwd.
