All of these points happen at the G. I had to walk a considerable distance yesterday to get food on level 3 in the afl reserve, it happens most weeks. In winter you cant park at the G because its mostly a bog heap and closed, there is tons of car parking options at Docklands which are 5 mins walk to the ground or the same on a free tram. You know someones struggling when they bring up the architecture of a stadium and surrounds as a reason for not going to a game.

Level 3 services shut down if the crowd isn't there. That's understandable. You have to walk a distance regardless of crowd at Etihad.

MCG carpark shuts down maybe 2-3 times a year across all games. The drainage is very good.

And why wouldn't I bring up architecture? I hate the aesthetic of the stadium. It's depressing.

"Hey we need a load bearing structure in the corners here to sustain the weight of the roof, what should we put there?"
"How about a giant slab of concrete and then we'll just put some corporate boxes in it!"
"GENIUS!"

Whoever designed that stadium deserves an award. You can get 60,000 people in there and yet nobody has a good seat!

I feel Richmond fans are the least bothered about going to Etihad FWIW, always seem to pull reasonable numbers whenever we play them there.

Check our page when we play there. It's hated. We should never have to play there.

Not sure why we have to play Etihad tenant clubs there as our home game. Terrible fixturing

Just proves that when hope is gone, other factors like the stadium, the weather etc start to play a bigger part in everyone's decision making whether to go to games or not. It's human nature and not confined to any particular club (Richmond sort of buck the trend, their supporters are like a bit like those people who sell flowers/or take photos in restaurants).

Collingwood have proven over a gazzillion years that they are the biggest club in Victoria, although next year, with the new Perth stadium West Coast will show, that beyond any doubt, they are the biggest club in the league.

I have said it for years the lady time Collingwood drew a really impressive crowd at Etihad was against the crows round 22 2009 when 47,000 were in attandane. From 2010 our biggest crowd against an interstate team was 38,000 against west coast in 2010. Two years later we played the eagles at the g in round 9 In front of 63,000.

Collingwood are still the biggest club but we boycott Etihad to show a message to the afl do not schedule Collingwood home games at the shit venue

So the Collingwood supporters held a meeting and decided this?

The problem with that is they've half arsed it. What you need to do is go sub-10k like Melbourne did -- we haven't had a home game there since.
We played a home game against the saints literally last year, there was about 27k there

Until fake crowd noise is played over the pa at pies games, i think that its too long a bow to compare them to north
A lot of clubs have this now. I'm happy Hawthorn haven't gone this path yet.

I cant stand it. At the ground it just feels contrived, and i dont think it adds to the broadcast atmosphere

Geez I dunno..
Game on field less than desirable to many..
Constant flashing signs assaulting your eyes constantly..
The dickhead during the breaks on the P.A...constantly..
Incessant betting advertising..
The dickhead on the P.A...
All games on fox these days compared to days of yore..
Have I mentioned that loser talking to the crowd during the breaks?

All this stuff is run by the club, not the stadium. MCG has the same stuff happen, it's just that the PA system is so bad that you don't notice it as much (which I think is a good thing) but the clubs, and probably families, obviously don't.

Collingwood supporter in QLD here and I went to my first Sunday twilight game at the Gabba. What a crap time for a footy game. I had a my son with me and his eyes were hanging out of his head by the time we got home, he was so knackered. Despite the joy of watching Carlton lose.

2pm Sunday is a good cutoff time for starting games. We've all got shit to do on Sunday nights, especially those of us with kids.

AFL would be weighing that up against the TV figures though, and whatever brings in more money would therefore be "better for football".

I noticed at our recent Geelong game they had speakers giving chants, about one guy was happy to go along with it where I was sitting. Pretty cringey, have never written an email to the club complaining about anything before, if we start that stuff I will though.

Don't blame them. It's actually quite difficult to get to if you're on any of the eastern train lines, having to change at flinders, or get trams. It's more of an inconvenience, but after the game it can be exhausting.
The concourse is tiny, and isn't great to walk along with little kids, as they get bundled over when there's any sort of crowd.
Driving in is expensive, not to mention the stadium is not that well serviced by roads.

But having said that, the old "big 4" clubs do have their crowd numbers inflated by playing their main rivals early in the year
