Keep him in a similar trajectory to X. Let him develop and earn that spot in the future.
We're in a good spot where we don't have to rush him in for any reason.
Give him another 2-3 years minimum to get close to ready. X will already be approaching 30.

An interesting article on the AFL website today about young Suns’ ruckman Ned Moyle.

Noted that the three ruckmen picked in the 2024 All-Australian squad – Max Gawn, Tristan Xerri and Darcy Cameron played a combined total of nine games across their first three full seasons in the AFL.

Plenty of time for Goad to develop. We’re going to need him in 3-4 years.

I know the big men take time thing is almost a joke at times, I think the age has reduced a touch for KPF's personally as the style of play is different into forward lines. But for Rucks it is still very much the case. Anything good you get out of a ruck before 25 is almost a bonus.

Gone are the days you see rucks playing 300+ games you think?

Do we think Goad will start playing more ruck time in the VFL next year? Or still a little too small? I will be very impressed if he sticks with it and becomes a physical player - getting concussed by Big X in your first few weeks as a twig 18-year-old is one hell of an orientation.

Sounds like he will be considering a bunch of the training reports have him up against X.

The only challenge I see with Goad compared to X is the go home factor.

The SA Clubs are going to keep coming and if we have him in the VFL on a 3-4 year apprenticeship (which he absolutely needs), he may see that better served in the SANFL in his home state.

I don't think they'll come hard for him until he shows something at AFL level, by which time, he will be very well established in his life in Melbourne.

Darling has a couple left and I don't think maley makes it.
Reckon we'll play Goad soon

They will start coming from this year if he shows anything in the VFL.

All I’m saying is that this will come with other challenges that we didnt have with leaving X in the VFL for 4 years.

It feels like jumping at shadows a bit this early on.

Unless he’s extremely home sick, I just don’t see how either SA club can sell him on coming over to develop playing SANFL whilst coming to the party to satisfy us in a trade.

Very much a wait and see to the end of his first contract before anything happens imo.

And to be fair, we did somewhat have that problem with X - he tried to leave for more opportunity.

Maley and Goad both played 18 games in the VFL last year. Maley took 88 marks, Goad took 7. Don’t think Goad is playing anytime soon.
early 20yr old vs 18yr old.
Wouldn't be surprised if he gets a huge increase with the new body.
Did they both play ruck/forward last yr?
