True, haven’t seen you be sweet, salty, or even umagi in your assessment.
You have been a touch sour on occasion, though.

Yeah a touch sour, I've had enough of this rubbish, us collectively I do mean.

This guy you now runs a golf course. Did an awful lot of damage to us, in a fairly short time period 1682413864460.png

l would rather keep Ben and get rid of Larkey. Our forward line has always been an issue and unless we do something about it nothing will change. We need another focal point and Larkey is not the answer. Who could we get to fill the spot ? Thats the big question because no one we have at the moment will do it..Maybe go after Himmelberg and play him at CHF and Comben at FF. Surely there must be players at other clubs we can look at getting...
I like your commitment there. Honestly tho Larkey will compliment a good contested KPD and regularly kick four or five goals a game maybe kick 6+ twice a year, in a good setup. Hopefully that KPD is Comben but otherwise we'll need someone soon.

All a bit of a shame as he's a North member isn't he? I'm sure he tried his best, but what a krazy appointment in hindsight.

That said, if it came off, he'd be the star of Moneyball Down Under.....

"Can anyone tell me why are looking at him?

.... .... ... pressure acts and ranking points, that's right!"

He’s a quality 1v1 defender.

He’s a liability when playing as a zone defender.
I'd give him some time yet. He hasn't trained properly or played for a while and zones work with practice.

If your last line turns out to be right tho i reckon Clarkson will have sussed that out by mid season.

He hasn't really coached us yet but when he coached Hawthorn he got in good players and got rid of ones who wouldn't play in three grand finals in a row. He might be happy to swap McKay for any pick in the top ten if he can't work a zone properly.

Wish I could like this post multiple times.

The pile-on re BBB was something else.

The whole Larkey centric forward line has really been something since we ditched a proven goalkicker who was adept at working in with other key forwards.
The guy ran all day, made space by working up the ground to smart positions, was dead-eye in front of goals, averaged 60 goals over three seasons and was a proud vegan!

The irony would be, Scott coming in and losing our best defender. And Clarko coming in and then losing our best defender. Then again. Louge might just be our best..

And rapidly devalued himself very quickly in 2020 with a mix of injuries and inability to take a contested mark

Let’s not forget that Ben preferred those kicks and subsequent bags of goals on a silver platter.

Watch his games closely from this point on or even go back and watch his previous games.

He is the most one-note defender in the league, and that doesn't make him elite in that one-note category because compared to his competition in a one-on-one contest for example, he's still not even elite.

And if coaches know that McKay can be outdone if you just make it a 2 man-up contest, then he's already nullified and he's your key back. They won't go for long bombs or kick it into space where he can intercept on the short run.

He can't close space quickly.
He can be cut off on the play by just standing on the mark because he'll take the safe option side/backward or handball to an overlap, and now his plays are figured out. He can't make his own plays when he has possession. It relies on other players to approach and direct him. He's also nowhere near as vocal as he needs to be down back and he can't even take the number one forward for the whole game.
When he does have possession, does he run and carry ever? No. Does he even try to gain metres up the field? No. Does he hold the ball for longer than 1.56 seconds? No.
You can call that safe footy, it is, but that's one-note footy. He's the most easily figured-out backman in the comp and they all know it. This is not what qualifies for premiership defence and it doesn't qualify for modern defence now and it certainly doesn't qualify for No. 1 KPD.

He's 25. Been in the system 7-8 years. He's not 'coming good' all of a sudden, you're seeing the career baseline here, it doesn't make the grade. So dump the stocks now and get something better in because this is not how you build a premiership-winning backline. This is typical treading water North settling for an average backline.

Would flop at the first sign of contact and was fed inside 50’s 90% of the time. Also tried to fleece the club. I was initially disappointed and said early on in 2020 that he was valuable to us then I heard hub stuff, contract stuff and couldn’t give two ****s.

Said this before. Club is ALWAYS bigger than the individual

Fleece the club? Every player is doing just that - trying to get what they can /the best deal through their agent. The guy had just come runner up in three consecutive years, in a mediocre/terrible team as well.

Does your description echo any current player? Might the myopic focus on a single target have more to do with instruction and game plan?

The difference between Brown then and Larkey now is that Brown still presented and wouldn’t stop leading. It may have had something to do with why he was the main focus up forward and why he kicked so many goals.

Brown was also a beneficiary of better/efficient inside 50 delivery and midfield half back movement. Brown wouldn’t get near it in our current team.

Well he’d get near it and have no impact on the contest; 3 games played this year for 0 contested marks*

*plays this week; has 20

I think people are saying that despite his contested marking deficiency, he was a very good lead up mark and managed to get a lot that way. They are saying that Larkey doesn't do the lead up part that well, while having a similar contested marking deficiency.
