I see him more suited just as a tagger, who is capable of getting decent possession.

Because when he did play as a midfielder alone, he was putrid.

his early games werent the best but he is still pretty new to playing at this level.....

what I like about the tagger role is that he gets to run with quality opposition and learns where/how to find the ball albeit as a follower........

the down side is that he develops a too defensive mind set.....Scott needs to ensure that he frees him up from time to time.....which Im sure he will do.....

Agreed, hopefully he has enough natural attacking instinct to get some footy himself as well as shutting his opponent down. Similar to Ling, he can find a lot of footy as well as do a job.

Not sure whether it's intentional, but you seem to be getting a little side-tracked with semantics there, Nick.

Let's revisit your initial post....

On the first part, I think the point that the others are trying to make is that its incredibly premature to say that Levi's "more suited as just a tagger", when the guy has played a total of 11 games of AFL football.

On the second part, the word "because" seems to indicate that you are using his previous failure in the midfield to support your assertion. As the others have said, this so-called failure of Levi's occurred in his first few games at AFL level, and therefore can hardly be used as any kind of compelling evidence that he won't be able to make the transition to a non-tagging midfield role in the future.

Well moderated TOD:thumbsu::D

My main beef was that Levi didn't even play midfield b4 he stated tagging so to label him as putrid as a midfielder was just plain stupid:cool:

Like my old man said for 70% of the season, having had one image of Levi burnt into his brain, when he chased the lightning quick Brad Dalziel at Jihad early in the year and had the head bobbles, "Too slow............no good!"

Every good thing Levi did henceforth I made sure I let the old man know, to no avail. He'd made up his mind............or so I thought. By the end of the year he was playing to a different tune, albeit whilst still suggesting he needed more pace.

I remember well the vision of Levi prior to being drafted, showing him storming through CHF on a ball tearing run before launching long into the F50. He'll be doing that at AFL level in a year or two.

Yeah, i should have added "IMO" but whats done is done.

Saying all that, i still stand by my comments that he should concentrate on tagging. Whats to say he can't be a tagger who gets lots of the pill, like Kirk for instance?

Some of the shit he did late in the season gives me confidence he can do that sort of a job for us week after week.

What the hell are you on about? Where did you see him playing in his first few games? Because i was there at the games and he was up in the middle for most of those games.

See, I'm not saying that Levi is no good, or too slow, all I'm saying is he seems better suited as a tagger who can also get possession going the other way, which is what we need. Rawlings has been good at doing the same thing, except his possessions are lesser quality to Levi's, from what I've seen to date.

Nothing at all. That may well be the way it pans out. But making a call either way, after 11 games of footy, is a level of premature speculation that I'm simply not willing to indulge in.

Which was kinda my point. (Or a part of it, anyway.)

Spot on TOD.:thumbsu:

It's far too early to be putting Levi in to a box marked "tagger".

Absolutely.

This bloke has plenty of tools in the bag and has the capacity to become a potent offensive option. Combine this with the fact that his playing style means that he will probably kill an opponent one day, then it's clear to see that there is plenty of upside in this young fella.

He was walking with The Boss on the sidelines at one point and I'm convinced he was thinking about eating him.

Animalistic in his attack and with that lethal left boot he is going to be one of the most important cogs in the middle for us.

Buried Gaz as well.

funny how so many people wrote him off last year after his first few games. I for one have always believed that this kid would make it. He will have an impact this year believe me!

With so many instructions from JYD...can't blame a kid for getting confused and losing his way. When your not winning...rest of the team is all over the shop.. just makes it hard to get a kick at the best of times. He'll definitely care to make better inroads in the new era @ North with confidence from the coach who played a similar HEAD CRACKING role. :)
