That's the point. Anyone with half a clue would take those factors (last year) into consideration when assessing his year. Others jump to conclusions, write players off, question the trade and his value in the team and his potential as a player.
I'm sure it happened but I can't honestly remember too many writing Powell off... Maybe I have selective memory but I always saw it as a combination of team being crap, him having an injury in 2021 and then a bout of OP. That combined with him being (IMO) undersized for playing in the thick of it (where his best attributes shine) saw what we saw.

Well nobles wasn’t going to play Tommy in the midfield , when he didn’t think LDU was worthy of a position in there

Yeah, he had some ****ing dumb ideas. FWIW I'm still not convinced that Powell was remotely physically ready to play genuine minutes in there last year and I'm not all that upset that he appears to now have survived a season intact and built a body more capable.

especially after OP. We all saw how it set back LDU.

Na. He never gained the shitmen tag.

If he did, then the ‘title’ of shitmen needs to be adjusted or the judgement of those who bestow it does.

Powell never was or will be a shitmen.

These are Tom's stats from 2022...

That is horrid and the stats of a shitmen, his 2021 was better.

Now he can play football, and he is like a new recruit, so it's all looking up.

He was the sub on multiple occasions and played out of position, of course his averages won’t look great.

So if we played Cunnington as a key defender for a year, the inevitable results would make him shitmen?

Raw disposal numbers are your argument? Love ya TAO but that's shitman football analysis.

Yes, excuses one after the other, I like it. One game as a sub.

I actually will say it again, he was terrible in 2022 I think he will bounce back and have a tremendous season.
Is ahead of Phillips, who I also think will have a great year.
So much to look forward to for us after 3 long years of misery.

I think the average BF fan ( opp supporters) is in for quite a shock, yeah al clarko will make a huge difference, but the average fan is oblivious to the amount of class on our list.

If supposed shitmen stats were for a mature, list clogger who had reached their ceiling, was never going to progress beyond a certain point and was holding back a young player - or a young player that is limited, has never proven themselves at the top level and will likely never push the club up the ladder - then I’d agree.

But for a second year player who had an excellent first year showing class and promise, with injuries, bad management in a bottom of the club team - the term is undeserved and misses the point.

Phillips > Powell

Powell was 100% a shitman in 2023. Doesn't mean he will be forever, as we all know he has the talent.

But lets call a spade a spade as TAO has.

He was a non-entity in statistically one of the worst wooden spoon sides of the AFL era.

People need to be objective sometimes tbh.

He wasn't alone in that regard btw.

Ziebell, Thomas, Perez, Hayden, Bonar, Mahoney, Lazzaro, Atu, Turner were all stealing a living last season.

What about Cunnington’s few games for the club towards the end of last year? How would you classify those?

Thank you 100% correct.

In a word "inspirational "

Is there any substance to claims Noble actively disliked Powell? Other than assuming it from team selection?

Fwiw Tom Powell is not, was never and never shall be a shitmen. Keep Tom Powell's name out of your ****ing mouths.

Gracious me , KC you need more sunshine. Yeah Powell hated Nobles and Nobles didn't really rate Powell.

From what I can gather Xerri, CCJ, Mahony & Turner were Nobles fav crew lol

Utter crap that he ever was a shitmen. Being the sub in games, having had OP, and being treated like shit by Clarko's predecessor all factor into his performances. You've had a mare there TAO

Thank you 100% correct.

Inspiration has nothing to do with your rating.
By your shitmen standards, which doesn’t take into account extraneous circumstances, like injury, illness, past performance or potential - Cunners would qualify.
I would never put him in that category. Or Powell. But by your logic - their stats have them in there.
