Reports of back soreness

AFL news 2023: Jake Stringer dealing with back soreness

Jake Stringer was excellent in Essendon match simulation last week but soreness has forced him to ease his training loads back. Get all the latest from Bomberland here.

Essendon forward Jake Stringer has been put on light duties to overcome some back soreness before the practice matches ramp up.
The superstar goal kicker was absent from Bombers’ main training on Thursday as the rest of his teammates completed a two-hour session at Tullamarine.
Stringer, 28, was excellent in some match simulation playing mostly forward last Wednesday, but the matchwinner had to wind back his training this week.
Instead, Stringer completed some indoor training and was seen in a lengthy conversation with medicos on the boundary line late in the session.

The Bombers said Stringer was dealing with some soreness and were hopeful he will increase his training loads from Saturday in a bid to hit the season at full fitness in a dangerous forward role.
Stringer signed a bumper new deal after an outstanding 2021 season, however his preparation for last season was severely limited by a debilitating pre-season groin problem.

He kicked 25 goals across 15 games last year and produced a brilliant late burst to pip Sydney Swans in Round 16 at the MCG, but did not finish inside the top-10 of the best and fairest.
Stringer will attempt to rediscover his best form under new coach Brad Scott who has been lauded for his impact at Essendon helping simplify the coaching message, ramp up the forward pressure and stiffen the defensive operations over summer.

Langford was on record saying he’s never seen him fitter. Maybe a low bar, but he’s seen a bit more than the awkwardly angled photo making the rounds on a football forum.
Come on players fluff interviews mean nothing. Every player is flying, we’ve never been more connected as a group etc etc. stringer has hardly been on the track this preseason it would be laughable to think this is the fittest he’s ever been.

Hardly been on the track ? really ? you best get a new source. Different program to the previous 2 pre seasons but has not missed a beat since they came back.

Was in rehab before Christmas. They’ve been back for 3 weeks, and he’s been hurt the last 1. There’s been at least a couple of session aswell In Jan when he was on restricted program.

Missed two maybe three actual sessions before Christmas (may even have been modified training) missed two this week.
He was running laps a majority of the time pre Christmas stuff from my recollection. Since the new year they had a 2 1/2week block then and break and he’s been injured this week. Not a whole lot of full preseason training if you actually break it down.

Get a new source. He has completed what they have wanted him to do until this week and was one of the better players in the last match sim. He has not been in rehab. He has been on a different program so he does not get the groin soreness he has had in the last two pre seasons because of the heavy running load. He stayed of the track yesterday because of back tightness. They are not running the same midfield program they had him on in the past.

Smart imo. He is a burst player at his best. Always a compromise between strength and endurance. Too much of one and you lose the other.

For Stringer, he doesn't need super endurance of a midfielder and with more depth there he will probably only spend 5 minute bursts in the midfield and only if needed there.
