Player Watch #26: Luke Parker - Welcome to North Melbourne - Konstanty and Parker traded for Pick 44

Who/Why do you want with pick 44 or 49? I don't see the point in keeping it unless we are using to trade up. Does this years draft crop run deep?
Swap pick 49 (if we had it) + F4 for a better future pick. Who knows next year, maybe another player wants to come to North and we can swap with that.

Geez. Tough marker.

Played upside down for most of the game.

He'll be a huge influence on George/Harry/Kerch. It will accelerate their development.

Worth every cent.

Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a great player and pick up.

I just think his grand final performance is a little overstated due to the junk time goals.

Yes it's deeper than last year's draft imo. Those picks will move in a bit after bids are matched.
44 might be 37-40 and 49 might be mid 40's. Could be a good range to take a key position or wing/half back.
Swans might need points for next year if they have academy players, so I'd be trying to give up a F3 at most for Parker.
However, if we split pick 2 and/or trade our F1 for a deal involving Freo's 11 then perhaps we wouldn't use 44/49.

I was at the races on Saturday and was having a chat to a couple of old, dyed in the wool South Melbourne supporter's Re. Parker, they reckon Sydney are being very disrespectful after kind of farewelling him at their BnF, and now haggling over the deal, hard to disagree, just get it done.
Sydney will be telling the opposite story: we expected North after publicly committing to the player to come up with an offer that's respectful of the value he offers, not trying to poach contracted players and offer peanuts.

I think he stood up while everyone around him gave up.
That's why we want him, he will provide the leadership that's sadly lacking on our list.

Respectful of the value? He was in the VFL until they had injuries, that's the value they placed on him.

And the reason he is willing to come to North next season, is because they intend to play him in the VFL unless injuries occur next year also.

He was only in the VFL as he was coming back from a fairly major injury, then was suspended for 6 weeks or so. So it wasn't like he was in the VFL due to poor form or waiting on someone to fall over in the seniors...

Just saying what story they'll be running with.
Ah yeah, wording could have been better from me. Realised that after I posted, my bad.

He had his challenges, but if he was considered best 22 with the coaches he wouldn't be looking to come and help us, just out of the goodness of his heart.

That's not really how it was. He got back from the injury, but could not get back into the senior side. He played VFL for a few weeks before he got suspended. Coincidentally, he got his opportunity with Heeney's suspension the very week his own was finished. Played as a sub, and in 1.5 quarters made himself undroppable with a dominant performance against none other than North. He is not in their plans for 2025 or beyond.
The issue with the trade is that he is of no value to Sydney and North knows it. But he offers a great deal of value to North and Sydney knows it.

Def worth no more than that pick 62 of ours

Sydney say they'll do it for 44 an hour before pack up, you'd say no?
Parker isn’t going back to Sydney after he’s done a farewell tour.

The fact that Brady is letting this get this far into trade period is ludicrous.

Put something fair on the table and tell Sydney that’s it. If they don’t want it, tell them they can explain to a veteran who has given them incredible service why they have blocked a move to extend his career so he can potentially be a depth player for next year.

No more, it’s disgusting what Sydney are doing to a champion of the club who’s specifically asked to be traded to us . They got every possible last drop out of him & still are wanting more on this deal .
Sydney heck off

As I said in a previous post if it was Geelong or Brisbane this deal gets done last Monday.

Because we have a List Manager that is seen as a soft target, can you blame clubs for seeing how much they can get out of him and what they can try on?

This was a simple deal. Put up a fair offer and be firm that’s the deal.

If you can’t sit down with Sydney’s List Manager for an hour and figure out this deal, what the **** are we actually paying you for?

I think the junk time goals were more appealing to us than Sydney supporters. We have been crying out for a leader who could raise two shits when we are 12 goals down in the last quarter. That's not Sydney's problem.
