This is very raw right now but in 6 months time clubs will be all over Thomas, especially ones in contention.

So given he was on his last chance, the club needs to make sure we get the best deal from his exit. If that means keeping him on the list so we can trade him at year's end, we should do it. If we have to pay him even 50% of his contract to completely cut ties, we won't receive any compensation but will still be out of pocket. That's not a good deal for us.

Better to just suspend him for the entire year to show we've punished his behaviour, keep him on the list but away from the club and make sure we receive compensation when we trade him.
We sacked him

He only has himself to blame.

Everyone at North put their time into making sure he could just play good footy for us and keep his head above water. The coaches, the admin, medical, Jy, Aaron Hall, the leadership and the managers. Everybody.

And he still didn’t sort his shit out. If I was any of those people who invested such time into making sure he kept on the straight and narrow I’d be insulted. This end result is a spit in the face to those people, the club and the fans.

It’ll be tough for him personally, but whatever. Hug the cactus and sleep in the bed you made.

Club shouldn’t pay him half of his contract out however, he’s already cost the club astronomical amounts of money.

We will get nothing for him. He will walk to whatever club wants him.

The Collingwood accountants are probably revising the budget as we speak to include $100k for Thomas cover up money ;)

To our members and supporters,

Today we made the decision to cut playing ties with Tarryn Thomas.

Right now, like many of our North Melbourne people, I’m feeling a range of emotions – frustration, anger, disappointment but overall, sadness.

This wasn’t a decision based on emotion – it was driven by incontrovertible, uncontested facts – but I want to be clear it wasn’t, and isn’t, easy.

At North Melbourne we have a proud and long history of supporting our people, even in the face of external criticism.

As you know, Tarryn’s behaviour has been a concern for some time. Our duty of care to Tarryn and to the wider community meant we chose to work with him to address his behaviours, particularly in regard to his treatment of women.

It’s why we accepted our responsibility to seek help for him. It was a complex and difficult situation but we were all united in our determination to get the best outcomes for Tarryn and those around him.

Tarryn came back to the club midway through last year pledging to be better.

We are all bitterly disappointed that he has relapsed. And he is now out of chances.

Last year he was afforded the privilege of doing his intensive education and rehabilitation programs within the structure of our footy club. From here he’ll have to find that structure elsewhere.

We’ll continue working with the AFL, the Players Association and Tarryn’s manager and his support network to ensure that he gets the help he needs to be better.

But he won’t play for the North Melbourne Football Club again.

Out of respect for her privacy I won’t say anything about the woman who brought these allegations to the AFL other than to commend her bravery and the dignity with which she has handled herself throughout this process. She deserved better.

A lot of people that have been shitting on this woman in this thread should have a long hard look in the mirror.

Controversial but I think he would have left next year for the $$$ anyway. Just means we've lost the negotiating power. Sure hope he can become a better human being. I fear for him.

This paragraph speaks volumes. Sonja wouldn’t have added that in there unless it was truly the case.

Makes the idiots in here that blame his ex’s look pretty stupid.

I hope he gets his life back together, but considering the investment we put into him, and the fact that he repeatedly treated women like shit, I really don’t want to see him play AFL footy again.

"In determining the sanction, the AFL took into account the evidence over a period of time which included Thomas engaging in misconduct while he was undertaking education in 2023 to deal with similar behaviours from earlier that year."

It really doesn't get any dumber than that.

"A triumphant tutelage touted, tried and tested by the redemption tour managers... Fly McRae plucks Tarryn from the tawdry trenches and thrusts him to superstar status, producing on the game's biggest stage, in the biggest moments... Tarryn Thomas, truly terrific!"

- G.Whateley, 2026 Grand Final post-game
I am so freakin' glad you didn't athributh that to Caroline Wilson!

By talent we’ve lost two of the most talented players to enter the club.

Let’s hope Wardlaw, sheez, and kercher over exceed
Sorry to see a talent self implode like this. Do you ever see him correcting his behavioural problems toward women and resurrecting his career or is he a lost cause? Full credit to the Kanga’s for trying to help him and giving him multiple chances.

I think his manager is likely part of the problem. Seems more likely to blow smoke up TT’s arse rather than giving him a decent kick in the arse when it’s been warranted.
Agree, this was my subtle (perhaps too subtle) way of having a dig at him.

Now that TT is officially not a North player he can GAGF and so can the AFL's corrupt integrity unit.

Who knows what he actually cost us. Not to mention he'll come out of this after 18 months with a nice contract with another club, lying about how he's turned the corner and wants to give all his best for his new club. Then we'll hear about North's poor environment and lack of real support.

**** off TT. All the best with your health and attitude but hope you never play another AFL game.

What the hell did he say in these 'direct messages' ?

Could it be worse than actual physical JDG sexual assault, MP style robbery or DM restaurant fork threats?
