It’s time they release the full convo

What led to his text

Was cheating involved for example

He’s still wrong but would give the full picture
Seriously? Just pull your head in.

Suggesting the club should be holding on to him through the suspension, basically because you hadn't personally been given the opportunity to read the messages. I get the AFL are often suspected of manufacturing outcomes to placate stakeholders and public opinion and suit their own agendas, but given Sonja and the club's first move after the suspension was handed down was to sack him and state he will never play for the club again, it is pretty clear, this incident wasn't just a tiny straw that broke the camel's back, this was a massive redgum that broke the camel in half.

It has been depressing clear reading comments here and elsewhere that no matter how bad the messages are, if they were released, there would be a vocal minority who would excuse, minimize and victim blame. No good would come from them being made public and we don't have any right to expect them to be.

Sonja and the club backed Clarko, when it seemed all in the AFL and public opinion were against him, they would have not been afraid to back TT if there was any underhanded injustice being done.

I had a mate who ended doing time up for abusively texting his ex.
Not that it matters at all, but I was pondering the TT stuff this morning in the shower, and was wondering if maybe this was why the woman he was abusing via text went to his employer rather than the police.
Maybe she didn't want him to end up doing time, she just wanted him to get a massive wake up call. Did he have suspended portions of his sentence when he went through the courts last year and got the rehab verdict rather than a more severe conviction? etc.

Wouldn’t excuse it at all he’s still wrong regardless
But potentially the victim isn’t the most innocent person

There was no conviction recorded (and thus nothing to 'suspend'), just a $1000 fine, which prompted the fury of the woman involved. And as it has turned out, her response was fair enough too

Your first line is correct, which is why your second line is at best irrelevant and at worst could be read as slanderous victim blaming, proving my point about the depressing vocal minority and why the messages should not be made public.

I don’t think that is an addiction to texting issue

It’s an ego immaturity issue
My Left Foote ferball I wasn't saying it's an addiction. More that you can't expect that patterns of thinking and acting that have developed over years are hard to change. If someone does a change programme then is put into the same circumstance, it's not surprising if they revert to their old behaviour.

It’s not victim blaming it’s providing full context to the situation

He’s wrong for reacting/responding the way he did, reaction was caused by the victim saying/doing xxx

8 brownlow votes in half a season in the second worst team in the league. A back end to 2021 that had people frothing. Absolute silk whenever he did anything football related. Yes, he was a star.

Not sure why you're using the phrase 'truly worthy,' as if being an arseh*le precludes one from being a gun footballer. Two of the three greatest players ever are and were colossal pricks.

Guess this is on me for expecting that Bigfooty wouldn't immediately start downplaying his football impact to cope
JHF got 17 votes for what I thought was a pretty so-so type of season by him. Im still flabbergasted by that one and is why I dont pay much attention to Brownlow votes. Sheezel got 3 votes. Explain that one.

Nah, not having this. This is copium. He produced throughout games. He was a star and a potential top 5 player in the league. If he gets another shot, he'll live up to his talent.

Doesn't change that sacking him was the overwhelmingly obvious thing to do
Potential ?. And that was his problem. He hasnt lived up to it at all so in my books can never be regarded as a star. Just a player who from time to time had some flashy traits. Stars do it game in, game out something he never got close to doing.

Addiction is a pattern of thinking and behaviour, reinforced by the results of satisfying the addiction.

So its even harder to change. It has dopemine feedbacks and in the case of heroin or niocotine (or even weed) other feedbacks based on the need to activate specific receptors.

I think we'll find that texting and even posting on sites like this creates a similar response. They already talk about smartphone use causing dopamine feedback loops.

Boom goes the dynamite. We weren't looked upon positively by many when we stood by Tarryn last year. I have no doubt the decision then didn't sit comfortably with many in the club, especially within our female employees but the club "looked after their own". This would have gutted all of our senior club management that supported Tarryn only to get betrayed again. He offered little recourse.

You've literally just defined victim blaming by presenting a case of action v reaction.

Nope not blaming the victim
Getting the full picture

Sorry, I posted too quick.

By presenting an action v reaction scenario you are instantly putting an element of blame on to the victim, if you are in fact (and I believe you are) considering the woman in question a victim. It can't be both ways.

Was my favourite of the new generation of guys coming through.. but good riddance - what a POS.

Still hopeful he can somehow turn it around for himself, but that's up to him and I won't hold my breath.

The only relevant context to the situation is that he had done similar previously and did it again despite the education and counselling he received.

It is irrelevant what she said, whatever happened, he sent messages abhorrent enough to earn an 18 match suspension and end his time as a North Melbourne footballer, end of story, no more context is needed to be twisted by people looking to make excuses.

A sentence that contains a phrase along the lines of "reaction was caused by the victim saying/doing" is in the same ball park as "she shouldn't have worn a short skirt" or "she shouldn't have been alone there late at night" and is one of the major issues with our society.

You need to post more on BF

Aptly summarised. Let's respect the victim of this situation by not talking about her anymore

Context is important to tell, not to change who is in the wrong but to provide the full picture

As an example she tries baiting him, insulting him etc and he responds

It’s still him in the wrong but gives the full picture to judge him accordingly

You don’t just present one side of the story

it's only natural for people to want to know all the details so they can reach their own conclusions... some of us like to analyse the full situation and not be believe what we're blindly fed in the media or follow the mobs thinking.
