Gotten to the point where its difficult to differentiate people intentionally talking TT down as a joke re: lowering draft pick and those who are sinking the boots into a kid.

He isn’t in the top 10 which is bitter sweet if we can trade down to inside the top 10 to get TT And a top 10

Trust me I don’t think anyone is intentionally talking him down. Based on this years draft crop he isn’t top 10. I call it as I see it. Yes people get carried away with some of the flashy stuff against lesser opposition, and yes I think he will be a good player.

He has some stuff he needs to work on and if he irons them out he could be anything.

Just take it as a joke. Most of the comments are from people who have only seen one game. Its like if I tried to guess where Ben King would go based on his game today, he got beaten by koschitzke and didnt really do anything. I guess he will be lucky to be taken as a rookie. And Koschitzke is going top 10 :smirk:

Thomas played okay, got 18 disposals, 5 marks and 6 tackles. Didnt do much when he went forward, but was good when on the ball.

Thanks Jaz. BTW, what's with the Carlton support? You've had more clubs than Tiger Woods.

Who are the contenders to go No.1 in
draft?

Tarryn Thomas

Midfielder/forward
Allies/Tasmania

Some recruiters believe Thomas is the best talent in the draft pool this year. The Tasmanian midfielder/forward dominated the recent under-18 Academy series and has been solid so far for the Allies. He's tall for a ball-winner, is a classy user and can play in a number of roles. North Melbourne is expected to have to use its first pick to secure the Next Generation Academy prospect.

Recruiter: "He might be worthy, but whether a club would ever bid its No.1 pick on a player is the question. They'd lose all the marketability and media that the No.1 draft pick gets. Tarryn might not be No.1 anyway but he'd be very close. He can play in any position, he's super competitive, he's clean and in traffic he has a fantastic step that gives him space and time. His division two form has been better than his division one form so far."

“Recruiter” needs to shut the **** up.

I really like the upside of TT, but honestly don’t think we should be matching a bid if it comes inside the top 5. He just isn’t in the same class as Walsh, Rankine, Lukosius ect.

You're looking at it wrong.

If a bid comes inside the top 5 it's not a question of whether he sits in that class. It is, is he better than what we would get if we didn't take him?

As it stands, we'd have pick 11, If taken at pick 5 the points difference is negligible.

Would we take him at pick 11?

Would he be better than what we'd get at 11, maybe.

Will we have access to any of the top 5 picks? No, so the comparison is kinda inconsequential.

Depends on who makes the bid. If it’s Brissy or GC then we tell him to go and enjoy the sun and beach for a couple of years and then he can come home.

If it’s Saints or Blues we grab him because I wouldn’t wish that pain on anyone (including Scotts)

This is spot on. The bidding system allows a club to access a draft pick they never held.

In this scenario of a club bidding for Tarryn at pick 5 while we hold picks 11 and 29:

We buy:
Pick 5 (1878 points) @ 20% discount : 1502 points

We spend:
Pick 11 (1329 points) + Pick 29 (653 points) : 1982 points

Leftover change:
Pick 38 (our leftover 480 points would translate to this pick which costs 465 points)
Note: AFL wording interprets this transaction as pick 29 moving back to pick 38

Anyway the decision would then not be "is Tarryn is worth pick 5 to us?" because we never held pick 5.

The decision would be whether Tarryn and pick #38 are worth more than picks #11 and #29 to us.

Too right OF. Too right you are.

For some reason I still keep thinking we are going to have a pick in the top 5 region. The doom and gloom forecast at the start of the season had me banking on a top 5 pick. Need to get that out of my thick skull.

Add another step and say Bailey Scott nominates North.

After 11 and 29 nets us Thomas and 38 we use 36 and a portion of 38 to get Scott.

We've turned 11 and 29 + a bit into Thomas and Scott.
