Oliver Burrows-Cheng Midfielder (Kingborough Tigers Football Club)
No.37 | Height 181cm | Weight 83 kg

#12 Oliver Burrows-Cheng – The half forward flanker has blistering speed & agility and had some smarts inside 50. Kicked a nice goal from outside 40m in the opening quarter.

So I watched the last quarter only and I need to be mindful of that when I say there's no way you'd take TT before Blakey, Scott and about 12 of the kids playing for SA. Factor in the other squads and you could suggest TT would be a third rounder.

Unless he blitzed in the first three quarters?

He didn't .. was average today played like he had nothing to prove. positives: tackling and clean hands.

North’s have told him to cool his jets . (Joking)
Honestly wouldn't be surprised if it were the case. Not necessarily from us.

He knows hes getting picked up, he has nothing to prove. As long as he stays in good nick, no reason to kill himself every game.

On the flipside our other lad Scott being BOG for the Allies is a very good sign.

We are officially in a conundrum.

TT really had to show a lot more than he did in these champs. I can't really forgive 3 very quiet games in a row.

His Div 2 form was just about the best of all time, actually literally statistically.

I did mention a few pages back, that LDU had a ordinary champs as well, but the difference is, LDU had Haileybury and Stingrays for the second half of the season. He blitzed both and really dominated the TAC Cup finals.

TT is going back to the same old Tassie league, part of the reason I wanted him to move over here for Year 12, to a Xavier or a Melbourne Grammar was so we could gauge him against the other top kids for a whole season.

I honestly think he has to come over and play 2-3 VFL games and perform well now to be an absolute lock, I can't lie, because of his injuries last year and not doing a lot at the Div 1 champs, following up with similar this year, not being a Victorian and playing in a much weaker league, I'm definitely a little bit nervous.

He's looked more Xavier Clarke than Shaun Burgoyne in the last 3 games.

So- who's name gets called first? Should we match an early call on TT as I highly doubt he'll be the best credentialed player available.
I mean, if Scott nominates us, and he hasn't been called by the time our first pick comes around, neither. We wait til we're forced to pick them.

If you mean, who gets picked first out of those 2? Flip of the coin, doesn't mean much in the long run.

If we can manage to push them out past the first 18 picks somehow we're effectively getting a bigger and bigger discount as its capped at around 190pts discount

You rank your top 100 players in the draft. If he is the next best when our pick comes, you select him. If he is in the bracket when a bid comes, you pick him. If you have more players you like better when a bid comes than picks left to your first bid, you don't pick him.

Looks like first on Scott and second on TT. Win win.
After the LMac experience you would think we would not want to repeat the same mistake ie bid high because we feel obliged/have invested so much.

Getting these 1st round picks right is essential - literally the difference in making finals/winning flags down the line in some cases.

As Moti has said if TT's name is called and he is the general vicinity of where we think he is at then you pick him - but you certainly don't match a bid that is substantially above where you think his worth is at (as we did for LMac).

On form, what club (especially in this drafts first round) will risk calling TT early with the risk we won’t match?

Pffft, I can't understand a milligram of any negativity.

Is there another kid in the carnival that is doing that level and quality of team defence oriented stuff?

He is playing with a maturity that you rarely see at this level.

Agree.

I can't pretend to have watched much other than giantroo's videos, but based on that last one, we'd be looking at a hard tackling, hard smothering, high pressure "tweener" forward, with roughly twice the kicking distance of Kayne Turner ... at worst. (I know these videos can be quite deceptive and heavily qualify my remarks in this regard.)

Just a FYI, the videos show everything they do, positive or negative so everyone can get a real gauge on them.
