im honestly not sure if he is worth our second rounder. he is no chance for our first rounder, thats insanity. this is not a sudden change of heart. i have never rated him. i dont think he is going to make it. i have never seen him showing anything. the only time he has ever played well was in the div 2 championships earlier this year. he has never played well at u18 champs level or tasmanian league level or his one vfl game.

i think i am the only poster who thinks this way, so i could very well be wrong and i hope so. he is not an impressive junior footballer at all based on everything ive seen.

having said all this, if he becomes a north player i will support him all the way. he is certainly a good kid and tries hard.

He hasn't set the world on fire on the field and has made some poor decisions off. I think a footy environment would be good for him and North should be a good fit. He has speed, tackles hard and uses the ball well. There is value there.

Makes the last round more annoying though, could have had a pick or two better.

Had a 2nd read. It's quite vague. The lack of professionalism stuff doesnt read great, but there's no specifics to hang him on. Besides him missing some school (lol @ that).

No suggestion of missing training, or pissing on, drugs, anything like that.

Has to be posturing. Yeah?

Also moving out of home.

I think they are issues of character and ability to settle down and make good choices, couple with poor fitness. As someone who was underwhelming at the Champs, that is enough to knock him down the order. Darling style.

Darling style.
Worked beautifully for the Eagles.

Hopefully North fed Morris some stuff about him skipping Biology as posturing, Tom Cat added 6 layers of mayo on t, and the story kicks on by North having to deny it. All the while other clubs get a little nervous.

nekmmit we get him for pick 560.

The timing of it definitely makes it sounds like posturing. There wouldn't be anything new discovered between now and when we played him for the majority of a must-win VFL match.

I'd imagine the club would have wanted to have a chat with him in person to make sure he was happy with it all.

Worse players with worse athletic profiles have been selected in the first round due to their athletic potential, so there's zero chance an AFL club would ever let an athlete like Thomas slip to the second round. I'm still not sure there won't be a club that see's him in the top 12 players of this draft (you can bump our pick down two spots due to Tom Lynch and Nick Blakey) especially as he is a Tasmanian with zero go-home factor.

Yep, Pick 12 is ours so it could be borderline nominating TT.

I was told a few clubs have already jumped off.

Not saying I necessarily hate it, but does this alleged posturing strike anyone else as a pretty anti North thing to do?

I think this is a heap of bull shit.been training on and off with us past 3 years .spent all last week with us.played in the VFL. Last sat yeah he didn't set the world on fire.so what he's just a kid.finding he's.way. Nth Launceston have a finals series starting this week.he could well be a two time premiership player. In a few weeks.let him finish he's education.then it's down to business.he will be at North next year.that articles a bloody laugh. Go roos

like who? not having a go, genuinely interested

and can you describe his athletic profile? he is not quick and has really poor endurance and strength

Ben McKay is one that comes to mind immediately. Played the back half of the season for Gippsland and then was drafted because of his size, frame and last name. Last year there were was Aiden Bonar who had barely played in years, then a few others types such as Matthew Ling who was mainly selected on athleticism.

Thomas has a really large frame which combined with his already solid core strength means that I think he's going to become a monster. You add that on to his top-end agility and he's going to end up being a 188-190cm bigger bodied Jy Simpkin. He is definitely a work in progress, but strength and endurance can come in time. Will Walker was another guy who had a nice athletic profile despite a present lack a strength/endurance.

Moving out of his family home, but refusing to move to Melbourne raises the eyebrows. Missing school... we talking 2 missed days or 20? Throw in fitness concerns and you can't help but wonder if he may be parting it up like he already has a strong AFL career in the bag. He's young though, so plenty of time for change.

Interesting situation.
