Not sure we win anything in that deal. Deal neutral?

One of them just kicked 100.

And they play in the same comp.

If it came down to a choice, I know who I would be taking - and I wouldn't have to think about it for more than half a second.

AFL and VFL are 2 different types of footy played at different tempos, an example of this is that digby morrel is one of the better players in the league..... carrazo racked up 52 pos in a game....... paul johnson won the VFL brownlow and played 11 games.......... 1 exeption is sam mitchell but there arent many others who have made something of themselves after winning the VFL brownlow....... but it couldnt hurt......

My only hope is that if we do want him, we set clear boundaries re his worth and don't freak out if we hear a rumour that another club is interested, blink and pay over the odds.

If he is available at a reasonable cost, fine. If not, deal with it and move on. Laids blinks too early.

bound to happen. unexciting times ahead

We better not take him, if we do its another move towards a huge rebuilding phase... this year is the best draft in ages and we will waste it if we take Edwards...

Taking him with a last round pick is a waste?

He is 22. And no one is suggesting he is going to be grabbed with a first bunch of picks, but definately worth talking to and hopefully is still around for us to grab when we have a late pick or PSD.

So hard to match up on (a la Mark Shotgun Williams and Braddy Johnson) and as vlad mentioned....Thommo currently is our entire forward line (remember not kicking any goals for 3 quarters vs Hawthorn)

Sensible post there Franga. Exactly how I see it. I can't believe the level of negativity towards this bloke here. He went to the Weagles, struggled to make a permanent spot for himself in a bloody good side, was perhaps a little immature in the way he went about things over there, he came back to the VFL determined to get another crack at the big time and has kicked 100 goals and stood head and shoulders above the rest of his peers in that comp.

What's the problem???

If you've heard an interview with him recently he's the first one to put his hand up and admit his prior errors. He also interviews very well thesedays and his determination to right prior wrongs comes through loud and clear. This is a guy who has talent and hunger, is a bloody good mark for his size and kicks accurately. We finished 14th and couldn't buy a straight kick for quids. It was a massive achilles heel that needs addressing.

A late pick is all it'd cost and at 22 he's still young.

I say "go for it"!

If I remember rightly he kicked 8 or 10 against Tassie late in the year in a TV game and I believe that Joel Perry played on him for most of those goals - obviously that says two things -

1. If the Joel Perry hysteria on this board is correct then Edwards would be a good pick up.
2. If you are worried about him handling playing on AFL versus VFL listed players I don't think thats a problem - the only player he had trouble with was Luke Livingston who kept him goalless early in the year on a very wet day.

To me a latish pick would not be a waste as I think he is equally good in a contested or on the lead scenario - and he has shown ability to snap goals when the ball hits the ground. He has to be better than some guys we have at the moment.

IN: Edwards
OUT: LeCras

I was thinking that too, but while Edwards is the leading forward type like LeCras, they are of very different size.

I just hope the Roos dont shaft LeCras, as he has tried sooo hard to get a chance in the AFL.

I'm with ya on that too bro'. He's deserved much more of a go, especially in such a scheisen year as this one.

One can also spin this in a different way. If Le Cras couldn't break into a disfunctional forward line in a schiezen year like this one, how well is he going? Doesn't say much about his ability.

Doesn't reflect on his ability. Remember a bloke called Jeremy Clayton who couldn't get a game in our crappy midfield and behind the likes of Mick Stevens in the pecking order on our list.

I would much prefer to use our 82nd pick or what ever on Edwards, than a unknown kid. This guy has kicked 100 in the VFL, as much as everyone is knocking the VFL is still has 12 AFL listed players in each side each week, its definately the best reserves in the country because of that. When did any other AFL listed player dominate as much as he has? Hell when Buckley was playing for Willie last year he didnt do much. Nick Davis has been kicking 2-3 for Wagga in the Canberra league. Akermanis didnt do a hell of alot in AFLQ, so dont knock a 100 goal season, especially at VFL level.

I guarentee you, if Urch had kicked the tonne we would all be going on about John Longmire or Carey Scholl re-incarnated. 100 is a fantastic effort, and is well worth say our 5th or 6th rounder over a kid that most likely wouldnt be able to get more than 10 kicks in a VFL game, let alone 100 goals in a season.

I saw a lot of Aaron when he was playing the WAFL whilst on the Eagles list. I think he is definately worth taking a chance on. At Swan Districts he played in a variety of roles. He played a majority of his footy there at CHB. He can player either end of the ground, has had an outstanding year with a non-affiliated side, and would cost us no more than minimum wage. Why not? Its couldn't be any worse than taking on Cameron Thurley, Lance Piccioni, Shane Harvey, Jade Rawlings etc - I really hope we take a chance.

I wouldnt be upset if we used a 4th rd pick on him. We need one of his 'type' up forward to complement Thommo.

A quick 6 foot leading forward is the new black.

I wouldnt be suprised if he went before our 4th rd pick though. The fact that our intentions have been made public doesnt help.

Spoke to a member of his VFL club and stated that he has only been playing at about half pace for about 4 weeks due to a slight knee problem. Said he has got a great set of hands, fast and can take a mark, and should be a very valuable mid/late draft pick by an AFL club.

I would be happy if we got him with our 4th+ round pick.

Could be a mid-sized leading option, the way Melbourne used to use Green and Bruce before they became midfielders. Would give the forward set-up a few different options, rather than the predictable lot that's been dished out (for better or worse) in the last few years.
