Why?
Is it his fault we picked him???
Has he let us down in any way (yet)???

Since when has that stopped anyone on the internet from voicing an ill considered opinion?

look the only thing that is tainting this pick is he is Paddys brother, and that bloke is woeful, and i mean WOEFUL, worst kick in the game, so lets hope Tommy Wow is a hell of a lot better

good luck to the kid, got stars all around him and fantastic role models and facilities

because he is shorter is part of the reason he could be a better kick so lets hope so.

Either way he will be a different player playing a different role to his brother due to the size difference apart from anything else

Seems like a basic attribute pick; fast and reasonable user of the footy.

On the looks if him and who is ahead of him at the moment, he seems more like a 2-3 year player than someone we will see get games next year. 2020 is more about the RCD, Ross and Naish type players breaking through regularly.

I thought all out first picks last names were supposed to end in N or S or NS.

Dud. Delist.

Welcome aboard, Dow.

Seems a strange pick based on his attributes (only what I've read). We have quite a few small-average size inside mids coming through, I thought we might have gone outside (having lost Ellis, and all our recent outside picks like Ellis menadue and Markov being spuds or delisted), or perhaps a tall Backman.

Maybe I just don't like the name cause of the Carlton spud.

Just looking at his highlights I would start playing him on a half forward flank in the reserves and let his natural leap work to his advantage. At times he can go i n the middle when suitable for his development.

What is key is his increase in strength and endurance. Apart from that I am more curious how he can utilise his explosiveness if valid. the 3.06 for 20 metres was average which really mean he is not that quick if he is indeed explosive from a standing start because his slowsness brings him back to the 3.06 average for 20 metres.

So if he really is explosive playing forward is probably better as he can create separation not worrying too much about his opponent and he can apply his creativity to develop his game and impact.

Defence is also a possibility for were he can separate and then use his explosiveness to impede the ball from his opponent provided generally they are not too quick and can out run him. He could use his leap to punch the ball away obviously.

Not sure how successful he would be against bigger bodies in the guts. Might need to be selective on who he is up against in terms of height matchups and how inclose he gets so his explosiveness might allow separation from opponents on the fringes. Something to work with and could be a better player than his brother with superior balance and poise.

I think he probably needs to refine his body v body contested work before spending longer time in the middle where once he develops his game he should then become more consistent over the ground. In defence put him back pocket to emphasise his agility and explosiveness initially. Get him on a agile small forward see how he goes. His poise should improve with more experience in contested forward line and defence roles.

When he first gets released into the midfield as part of his development against a selective opponent, I would use him as a tagger. His explosiveness can restrict the opposition as well as his leap and his agility and explosiveness can theoretically hurt against his tight opponent the other way. See how he grows from that contest

You reckon?

So what are the odds for this kid winning a premiership before his brother? :D

On a more serious note, watching his highlights I like how he goes about it.

I think he’s probably a likely replacement for Cotch or Shed’s in a few years, when they retire (I will literally ugly cry when they retire btw) I agree with everyone here and will not be expecting to see him before 2021 at the earliest in the AFL, looking forward to seeing what he can do next year in the VFL however.

When he does eventually debut however I reckon it would be fun to see him debut against his brother. :D

So Richmond’s unique game style is based around quick forward handball, we recruit a young mid that has quicker hands than David copperfield and you fink oh strange pick , ffs cmon man

Not saying he isn't worth the pick, just that I thought it strange we didn't go for something a bit different given we have quite a few similar and have some other future needs. Besides everyone is talking about down being ready in 2-3 years, who knows if our gameplay will be remotely the same then as now.
