All I care about is how happy he looks when we see the first shots of him at the club.

Are we thinking he'll have a wry smile or the serious determination look?

A hard to contain grin...cos he doesn't play for carlscum and cannot wait for Chrissy dinner with his family to hang it on paddy!

Higgins is small (I see him being Prestia like in the future) Ross and Graham are strong but not huge. Prestia will be leading the midfield once cotchin goes, and stack is brilliant but again is small. Only Ross and Graham are over 180, and Graham only just.

RCD?

Not saying he isn't worth the pick, just that I thought it strange we didn't go for something a bit different given we have quite a few similar and have some other future needs. Besides everyone is talking about down being ready in 2-3 years, who knows if our gameplay will be remotely the same then as now.
To be frank , I would have thought it’d be a lot more strange to recruit someone that doesn’t suit how we play

THOMSON DOW (Bendigo Pioneers)

Pick no.21 to Richmond

184cm midfielder Dow overcame an injury-riddled bottom-age 2018 season to represent Vic Country in all four of its outings at the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships. The Swan Hill (Central Murray FNL) product also averaged 19 disposals and four marks per game as well as kicking five goals across five matches for Bendigo this year, showcasing his explosiveness from congestion and composed decision-making with ball in hand.

Doesn't count. Only got him coz Blooze took Stocker lel
I do wonder if this is going to be a thing for Carlton in future. Try and live trade their way to a pick just before Richmond, once is a coincidence, twice you’d have to think it’s deliberate. Lol

Reading the reviews. Sounds like he has genuinely amazing agility, fantastic hands inside, good in attack, and likes the contest. Downsides, are kicking is good, then not so good, skinny and injury plagued.

So I'd guess the tigers looked at him from the development perspective and thought 'there's a lot to work with here. Good height, we can bulk him up. Agility is amazing, and we can work on his off the mark speed. Kicking can be good, so we have to work on his composure. Good forward, and we can build on that."

From the glass half full perspective they might be thinking they have another Sheds on their hands. So that'd be a great pick. You pretty much have those amazing hands or not, they don't tend to develop. You pretty much have that agility and ability to work in traffic. Given that is the core of our game style he makes sense.

God I hope so. Keeps eliminating 1 dud from the draft pool and reducing our chances of ****ing up

Never seen him play but don't rate him. Crap name for starters

Shit post mate. A 17 year old new recruit who is going to wear our jumper. Gee there's arrogance after winning 2 flags then there's just this shit.

This kid will have 2 years at VFL level where he'll be able to develop his skills under proven coaches. Paddy Dow was thrown to the wolves from round 1 and then supporters jump on the kid when he struggles.

This is a misnomer. There is no correlation between height across a midfield and it’s relative success.

As an example, in our premiership side the tallest midfielder was Dusty at 187cm; and he played predominantly forward. The majority of our midfield is closer to 180cm than 190cm. Dow is bang on the average height of a mid.

It's more about having a point of difference that I'm thinking about. Don't want to end up like Melbourne with 20 of the same player

Not to be under rated having quality proven skilled coaches to mentor our recruits...then constantly training with proven stars of the game...and finally playing/training in the Ressies being fine tuned without being rushed or being thrown in against the big boys! In front of most other picks already! 👍:D👍 (all this skill training knocks 5 draft places of his rating already!!! putting him a lot closer to Number one! ) ;)

Dows 5 games for Bendigo this year:

28 disposals (15 kicks 13 handballs) 8 marks 2 tackles 2 goals
24 disposals (11 kicks 13 handballs) 4 marks 4 tackles 1.1
9 disposals (5 kicks 4 handballs) 2 marks 1 tackle 1.2
24 disposals (8 kicks 16 handballs) 6 marks 1 goal
23 disposals (7 kicks 16 handballs) 2 marks 5 tackles

Kid obviously knows how to find the footy, which will only become easier as he develops in an AFL system.

Plus we re in the enviable position where we can warehouse players for 12-18m to really develop at vfl. There’s already a queue so it suits . He has the qualities that suggest to me he was very much a targeted selection
