I noticed 2 good handballs. Not enough
Disagree
Was quiet early but worked into the game really well

Still playing as a player that lacks confidence but he’s progressing in the right direction

I'm all for giving him a go, gotta find out whether hes good enough.

This will be his 4th year in the system though and can you look at him and say at this stage he looks like a midfielder of the future?
Just hasn't progressed enough, should be banging down the door at this stage along with Sonesie but just doesnt seem to be quite there.

Give him time.
Adds a bit of pace in tight something Prestia, Hopper & Taranto have none of.

He is building, just needs games under belt and confidence.

Prestia being out for a while will be the making of Dow IMO.
You could see his confidence lift as he was now in the middle a lot more.

Ross on the wing, Dow in the middle.

I hope we don't add midfielder.
Ross is pure mid and coaches play him out of position. But in reality, I don't think his good enough and has plenty of practice time to move on.

His hand balling is definitely a weapon and a couple of instances last night where the play really opened up because of it. Still seems to be lacking sone bulk and intensity around the contest though. After looking a million bucks in the praccy games he’s gone back to looking a bit timid again and off the pace. I do think though that his confidence should improve with game time and will start to look better when the game starts to slow down a bit after the first few rounds

You can really tell when his confidence is up, he is on the move and gets zippy. He is light, but so was Edwards who played a similar game in many ways. His last half in particular was good.

Yeah he was 100% better last night than the week before.

100% would love to see him be almost kamikaze-like without risking his head. I think what is holding him back is that Taranto and Hopper attend the majority of centre bounces. Dow only got to 9 centre bounces.
Some of his work last night was promising, he just needs confidence and a bit more aggression. I think there are definitely players who aren't overly huge units and still have the ability to become great midfielders.

All our mids stayed on the ground longer last night as we lacked rotations. Some spent more time in defensive roles helping out our undersized defence and Dow actually took his chances when he played with Balta, Dusty ,Bolton and Pickett around him .
Our guys would've all slept well last night.

Confidence players like Dow and Cumberland (and to a lesser extent Ryan) seriously need more help from a mental health coach or something IMO. I don’t know how much help they’re already receiving, but to me, their form is all to do with their head.

If they’re confident in their ability, then they’ll tear the game apart. With every great decision comes another one. However, if they lack confidence in their ability, then it just builds up after every mistake they make. I analyse from their body language that they probably don’t leave their mistakes in the past the way some other players do (e.g., Dusty). That’s why I think they don’t have many average quarters. It’s usually either terrible or great.

I think they might need more encouragement through reminders that they have the talent to make it, and that even the best players make mistakes. The difference is that the best players barely ever doubt their ability even after making mistakes. It’s difficult to excel when all the mistakes you’ve made mentally weigh you down. Even the most talented players might struggle in those conditions. So they just need to relax and go easy on themselves.

He doesn't actually really make mistakes though. I think it's more confidence and he's still physically undersized. I would've delisted mid last season, but he's definitely a keeper now. Still has a lot of work to do, but he's developing in the right direction.

Nah I think Dow does make mistakes. It may not be a blatant turnover, but sometimes he runs to the wrong place or something like that.

Having said that, I agree that he is a keeper. I wanted him delisted before the last 2 rounds of last year, but he’s shown a lot in the preseason. I believe that it’s only a matter of time before he plays to his potential. We need to persist with him for the next two weeks at least.

oh i agree yes in terms of getting sucked in by his opponent or left ball watching he does, but i think that's more with experience and confidence. GOOD PONT.
