No you clown. He did what he was told.
Don’t risk the behind and hand the ball back to Sydney.
He did not have the distance in him.

Nah, was stupid game awareness. It was a stop play so we were set up defensively. Margin was 11 points, so even a point was golden at that stage. He needed to go as close to the line as he could for a point worst case. I agree in 99% of situations don’t kick it to a metre out from goal … when 11 points up (or 5, or 6, or 12 or 17 etc…) with just minutes left a point is crucial. If 4 point margin or 10 etc… it would’ve been a smart play.

He will learn.

The shedda comparison needs to stop. He does not have a kick on him. If he plays to his strengths and limit his weaknesses which is what he did today he’ll be a great role player

The comparisons are because Edwards was a slight build and his first 3 x seasons from 2007-2009 were horrible. Averaged 11 touches across 47 games with 3 x coaches votes in those 47 games. Dow is also a slight build and has played 21 games… Dow has quick hands and plenty of potential. He showed it today against a top-4 team. Plaudits to him for a very promising game … which was only game number 21!!

lol so should the rest of us stop giving him credit for what was a pretty good game, Castagna!
Credit where credit is due. I was at the game today and thought he was much harder at it than previous weeks. Definitely played his role, was better defensively, and apparently acknowledged by the coach after the game.

Is going to have to improve a lot by foot though imo if he’s going to hold his spot long term. We have a number of inside mids with poor kicking skills.

i see very little of Edwards in him. Edwards was incredible creative and could read the play 2 steps ahead, but was insanely slight for AFL level and that made him the liability as he couldn't compete 1on1. Edwards was never really considered a "inside mid", whereas Dow is meant to be one. I see very little in Dows & Shedda's game other than they are both skinny for AFL when they were in their early 20's

Was good to see Dow respond yesterday as I was a bit concerned when he lined up next to Heeney at the first bounce, but he got himself involved in the game from early on and had some very important moments throughout the game where his clean hands in close broke open the play. Hopefully this game shows him that he belongs and he can start to build on that.

Probably the best game he's played at the level. I'm not going to say justified keeping him in as that's 3 very bad games to 1 decent game.

That's the minimum level of performance we should be accepting for a guy attending 20 CBA's a week. Keep it up Dow.

Agree. We were 11 points down. He takes that shot and scores, we go 17 up. He misses, it's 12 up. We NEARLY lost that by 1 point. Had we lost, I'f be looking at that moment as the one that cost us.

Needed more situational awareness at that point. A goal ices it, a point all but confirms a win. What he did was the wrong thing.
According to you
Lucky for Thompson
Your not on the match committee

First goal by mansell was set up with elite handball to Bolton

Spot on, what have we got to lose to continue to play him every week.
Yep, we have to know by years end, without any doubt at all, who will make it, and who wont.

Both very good by hand. Edwards super quick both by hand and by mind, but Dow hits players free out of traffic. If Dow had Edwards pace, he would be a player.

and kick. Jack has said that Shane was the best kick to a lead
Edwards was a great kick, like everything he did, all about vision.
Not really sure about Dow's kicking. Some exaggeration on here, but seems an average kick, not good not bad.
But like Edwards he has good vision, so like Edwards it may improve. Shank Edwards in his early days.

Hoping Dow can build on last weeks game, with another solid performance. Norwood may well suit his game given it will be a tight contested game in close for the midfielders, where he can use his hands to good effect.
