Very disappointed with NMFC and the non-offering of another 1 year contract to Boomer.
Disgusted, in-fact.
As with previous years, this year he has been one of our best players, consistently.
Brad Scott, if this was your decision, I'd sooner want you sacked than Boomer.
This will cost the club dearly, in members (me being one) and on field performance in 2017.
Boooo!!!!!!!!

Surprised by the absolute hysteria around Boomer. He wasn't sacked FFS. Not renewing a contract is just that - sacking is when you are dumped in contract so get the word sacked out of your vocabulary. Boomer has had plenty from the NMFC. He made sure his brother was recruited costing us Aaron Davey and put a few noses out of joint at the time. He has threatened to leave over contract negotiations at least twice. He was generously given an extra year to break the AFL record. He demanded an answer last week and created the PR mess - when he was told what he demanded to know he refused a media conference which is what caused the PR mess. He has made a small fortune from the NMFC. Sure he gave us plenty on the field too - I love Boomer and will always be a big fan. But now it is time. Go with dignity and class.

When is this board going to provide an "unlike the post" option. This is a crap post gk. In my opinion you don't get it.

Playing very well - no question. But the club has made a tough call and respect that. I love watching Boomer. Been one of my absolute faves. But, its time. I understand the disappointment but the attack on the Club is out of proportion. Just waiting for someone to demand a Royal Commission. No player is bigger than the club - we made that mistake with Carey.

Ummm history since has shown that Carey makes enough mistakes.

Horace, my point is this goes two ways. I am as big a Boomer fan as anyone but the Club is bigger. It is a fair call to say thats it in my opinion. The club makeths the man and in this case Boomer should go with grace (he has to a degree).

That all may be true GK but this, as well as the other side of the opinions are based on a lot of emotion.
The fact is he is still one of our best and one of our most fit. That alone is bewildering that North don't want him any longer
Yep - accept that. I would not have been unhappy if we gave him another year. But I also support the club in their choice. I don't support the protestors, the members who say they won't join again - that to me is over the top. Support the club.

Yes but you are expecting people to act dispassionately when this is a very emotional issue, not to mention the fact that the bloke is good enough to go around one more year and be very instrumental with his playing performance, as well as a wonderful mentor to our younger blokes come through.

The football world outside North Melbourne is almost overwhelmingly incredulous that North has done this to Boomer.

Yes the club is bigger than one guy, except the one guy that is turning our football team into a shit show.

Why isn't the board questioning the one man that is taking this club nowhere?

No instead he seems to be given an opportunity to rebuild the list, a job he failed at last time.

If the club is truly bigger than one individual then the first head to roll should have been Brad Scott.

What utter garbage.

Why is it time? He is still one of our best players and wants to go on.

You have been sucked in to blindly agreeing with anything the club says or does.

Open up your other eye, it's a pathetic decision and has completely pulled the heart out of the club.

So please explain to me why it's time.

"I love Boomer" "I'm a big Boomer fan" ... After you write a heap of BS about him that you know nothing about? Extraordinary. You're entitled to your opinion about his contracts status etc but don't make stuff up based on rumour and Chinese whispers. That's unfair on Boomer.
Heath

I am genuinely interested in the bolded comment, gokangas. Why was he 'generously' given an extra year? Did you (or the club) think he didn't deserve to play on this year? I don't remember hearing or reading any speculation that 2015 would be his last year at the club.
Fair question - I would not have played him this year. I would have let him retire then. Must admit I was wrong - he has had a great year. I think the club took a risk playing him - they got back plenty.

Thank you.

So why retire him now you cretin?

Can I double like this?

All I have heard all week is it is time, but no actual explanation other than it would effect our ability to retain younger players.

If it is in fact true that Chris Mayne is a done deal, then please some one tell me how a soon to be 29 year old plodder is not a direct contradiction of the above?

Boomer is having his career cut short due to the inadequacy of one person. The same person who doesn't play kids anyway unless he is forced to. The same person that decided we needed Farren Ray as depth because we were close. Obviously the same person who is now contradicting himself in some pathetic attempt to save his career.

I'm with GK on this. There is no doubt at all that Boomer is playing well enough to deserve a contract in 2017. Everyone at the club knows this too. Unfortunately, we are not going to compete for a flag next year or the year after so the best way for Boomer to contribute to our next flag is to make way for someone else. The timing in uncomfortable, but was brought about by Boomer himself.

I hope he stays around the club in some form of coaching capacity because he is a very smart player and will have a lot to offer our youngsters.

Having said of all that, I will be truly pissed and gobsmacked if it turns out that Boomer has made way for Chris f*cking Mayne.

He is still in our top 5 players. Why is it time?

If we are rebuilding why are we bringing in a 29 year old spud who isn't a 10th the player of Boomer?

I am happy to defer to Heaths comments but I did not make my comments lightly. Support the club, back their decision and let the rebuild begin. Thats it from me.

So you avoid answering why it's time?

Pathetic

Yes, if Boomer goes out and Mayne comes in, I will be as outraged as anyone.

Not avoiding at all - I think Boomer is not part of our next challenge and we need to rebuild. Let's see who we recruit or trade as I think (I hope) the real answers will be in our 2017 list. I said I would not have been disappointed if he was given another year but I back the clubs right to make the change.

Heath when will the club come out and tell us why one of our greats has not been offered a contract while he is still playing football that is in the top echelon of the competition?

As members I don't feel we have been given a good enough explanation. Maybe a good explanation would appease the anger that a lot of members are currently feeling?

I have no issue with the decisions of Drew, Spud and Dal but I feel Boomer has become a sacrificial lamb for some misguided ideology of promoting youth.

If the club thinks members are disillusioned now then I can't wait until Chris Mayne is signed because it is a direct contradiction of what we have been sold this week.

Now the decision has been made and no amount of disputing it will ever change the result, I personally think we should focus on thanking Boomer and marveling at his career.

I'd love nothing more than to see Boomer given a development role at the club. Who better for the young kids to learn off than someone who got the absolute most out of himself and lived a professional lifestyle for 21 odd years?
