Essendon are a good lot to talk about soft players aren't they? They are just a bunch of nancy boy, skirt wearers. Softest team in the comp they are!!

l think that was a typo, should read "Shane Clayton"

tell them to have a look at the Hawks game Rnd 21 last year when Boomer starred with a f***ed up shoulder and was constantly a target. That was a very gutsy effort

Read a thread at the essendon site about who the biggest receiver is in the AFL... can't believe that someone nominated someone from our team....

If your talking blokes that are soft and won't go in and get it for themselves because they are scared then i would highlight these players:

Brent Harvey - North
Craig McRae - Brisbane
Adam Yze - Melbourne
Alan Didak - Collingwood

Which brings me to the point... is there anything wrong in modern AFL in being a link man or so called "receiver". If you have good skills why shouldn't you wait outside the pack for a Stevens or Simpson to dish out to you?

Who is this Essendon Knob. Calling Boomer Soft, obviuosly he only sees black and red. Even Adem Yze soft, no way.

Have a look at his team, he wants softness, how about Dean Rioli one of the softest going around, who dosent even look like an Athlete, and he gets all the praise from the media.

Will admit to Boomer taking the occasional dive to milk a free kick (but he's not quite in the same league the the boy from the Borough) but no way soft. Obviously Clayton wears that hat for us.

Also noticed that this knob jockey overlooked Camporeale and half the Footscray side in his assessment of soft receivers. (

You should tell that moron to watch the last few games of last year and see Boomer play with a stuffed shoulder knowing that whenever he got tackled he was going to be driven on that shoulder.

I dont blame him for being a little more protective of himself. He is a small bloke and the umpires do not protect the player that goes for the ball.

He can't go in like a player that is much taller and heavier because he is going to come out after a few weeks with a serious long-term injury.

Unlike the moron that commented that probably has never played a game of football in his life, Boomer needs to use his brain and do what he does best, be a true rover off the packs.

It is what made him the great player he is.

does anybody have any stats on the number of times brent harvey turns the ball over when he disposes of it. i seem to notice that at least five times per game he coughs the ball up to the opposition. it seems to me that if he can addresss this situation he will develop into a truly great rover, not just a good one.

roos will do me in 2003

Sorry to intrude

As a doggies fan - i'm gutted..

But Harvey absolutely killed us, we couldn't lay a hand on him all day. How many times did he run and bounce 5 times without anyone catching him. Brilliant game.

And well done on coming back in the 3rd.

Next time...

Harvey and Simpson kept us in it in the first half, I would hate to think what the scoreline would have been in the first half if they weren't out there

Boomer our best for mine. Really put in for four quarters, and his disposals really hurt the Doggies.

Cheeky effort that to try and run around the man on the mark in the last too. First time I think I've seen him try it where it hasnt come off!

He does that a bit doesn't he! I think the last time was against Brisbane at Colonial a few years ago... His torpedos on the run at full pace were amazing... He could have had 2 goals from them (one was marked on the line by a teammate).

i think he has lost a lot of fitness this summer becuase the whole year he hasnt been as fast and cant run as long as he normally does and he doesnt have as much power in his kicks

what do you think?

I reckon he's nursing something fairly decent - I guess we won't find out for sure until post season - but no way is he 100% fit. It shows you how much of a champion he is the way he has been a key contributor these past few weeks.

No way 100% fit ???  you can't be serious ??
I think Boomers role has changed quite a bit under Laidley...he showed alot of confidence taking on the opposition on many occasions...players that ain't 100% fit do not DO this. Boomer is Back !! IMO:D

He went for a lot of long runs today bouncing the ball. When your injured you get rid of the ball pretty quick and you certainly don't take players on and bounce.
I thought it was his best game so far and he seemed to be running pretty good.
Not sure about his speed. Didn't really notice him being any slower.

Boomer does get tagged..., I don't think his lost is speed or his kicking power. And his form at the start of year was ordinary but it looks like his improving every week. He was brilliant today kick 3 and set up at least a handful especially the one out of defence in the....

I'm am serious(!)...I do reckon he is carrying something. I can't prove it of course so I am prepared to cop whatever.

If ever I get a theory together instead of just having a hunch I will be sure to post it.

I recall at one stage late in the match the commentators saying that Brent Harvey had taken 16 bounces, out of our team total of 21. Pretty phenomenal effort that.

Would have been interesting if they were tracking how far he ran today, because I think it would have been right up there. Pretty gutsy effort for a bloke who isnt 100%.

I thought he might have been carrying something earlier in the year. I remember in the first couple of games I saw him stretching out his groin and seemed a little uncomfortable.

But, today he ran hard and his workrate was as high as ever. I think he is close to 100% fitness now.

That stat was actually mentioned before halftime. Makes it even more impressive.
