His lateral movement is severely underrated.

He's probably only behind Robert Harvey as the best exponent of that skill in modern football.

I am fairly confident that next year won't be his last. It also largely depends on how well our side is going. If we progress at the expected rate, it will mean much less pressure on Boomer, and if he is not getting tagged, he could play for another 2-3 years easily, as an outside distributor/forward pocket or sub impact player.

how good would it be to see him climb the dais on a grand final day in two years time to accept his premiership medallion fifteen years after getting his first one.
the roar from the crowd would be massive!

where do we rate him?

im only young(ish) so I can't talk much about pre-90's North Melbourne having been a very young Crows supporter up until 1993, but of the players I've watched over the past twenty years I rate him second only to Carey & maybe Arch.

The last 3 weeks have been pleasing to most of us here........boomer changing his role and doing the team things that lifts the younger lads playing. Those 1%´s:- tackles and chase downs from behind have been evidence enough for me to go. Of course bagging 3 goals a game til he finishes up will be a bonus as well.
agreed.

He's still a very valuable player for us. But when the times comes that we don't need him out there for the whole game, wouldn't he be the perfect sub to introduce for the last 1/4?

Would be similar to watching the players pile on top of Horse in 99, a crystal moment in time where you know you are witnessing something that is very very special.

I have similar time frames, I put him in the same category. We get to watch our games record holder every week do things others cannot.

Similar to Arch his loyalty can never be questioned. Surely his passion for this club helped when setting the tone with players who resigned with us rather than trying their hands with the expansion clubs.

As long as we have players that love the club the way he does we will have a cultural edge over others.

Where does the speed come from.. I just don't understand?

He was always quick, some people's bio mechanics are just a lot more efficient than others. I don't think he is the quickest bloke in a straight line but his main strength is his agility and his ability to accelerate while turning or changing direction.

What has allowed him to maintain that for so long is his hard work in preparing himself for his football, if we could everyone to work as hard as boomer does to prepare themselves for games we would be unstoppable, it is what separates the good players from the champions.

If we stop playing him in the midfield now he could play into his 40s in the forward line if he avoids a major injury, there is a lot more protection of the player up forward and he would have less stress on his body.

Of the past 20 years in importance to the club:
Duck - Arch - Stevo - Boomer - Simmo

These are Boomers games projections if he reaches the same age as Dustin Fletcher is now (37.)

Assuming Fletch plays on next year, let's add a 38th birthday which was the same age Braddles retired at but turned 39 later on in 2002 (Braddles' retirement year.)

34 years old now, 345-349 career games is possible.
35 years of age next year, 367-371 career games is possible.
36 years of age in 2014, 389-393 career games.
37 years of age in 2015, 411-415 career games.

And if he makes it to Braddles' age as of retirement in 2016, you've then got a projected tally of 433 games.

do your assumptions accumulate finals from one year to the next? I don't thinks they do,

so the numbers should read, assuming we will be as dominate as one would likely expect.;)

keep on keepin on boomer, also a very under rated kick, either for goal,or passing to a team mate, not too many clangers over the journey

He was rated during the week on AFL Insider for this.

Its not that his kicks are 50 meter to advantage bullets its that he repeatedly hits targets with well weighted kicks, leads players to the ball

Shane Harvey was also good at that so clearly a genetic trait of all the Harveys. Gerry Harvey is particularly good at swift lateral movement.

Yes but only if our football department decides to use the Sub role as an offensive weapon rather than as an apprenticeship scheme.

Very true. (I'm still scratching my head about Flash doing it well a fortnight ago then that successful plan is swapped for Harper for absolutely no reason)

Boomer could fill that void nicely, ideal sub to have on for the second half when others are getting tired - could do some damage!
