Not sure why we recruited him - medium sized defender and to my eye he’s behind Laverde, Redman, Cutler and even Heppell…As others have said we seemed to move the ball better out of defence without him against the Hawks last week. His game this week was poor - and 9 disposals and 1 tackle for an experienced player like him is not enough - I wouldn’t mind if we was dropped for Dreamtime…
Didn’t he play on Heeney last night? One of the toughest match ups going around right now.

Happy to stand corrected as hard to pick up on tv but Heeney was reasonably under control given the ridiculous weight and quality of inside 50 ball for Sydney.

I know why they got him. Blue collar player. He may not be a star but he defends well and he goes hard. Something we lack. We will have to continue getting players like him while we turn the list over. They may be two or three year stop gaps but it will be part of the list development.
As for 1 tackle , as a rule the defenders do not always produce high tackle numbers.

I think Kelly is fine. A solid contributor.

I am not sure what some expected. I mean take a look at those around him in the D50 they're either out of form ( Ridley, Hind ) , past it (Heppell) or just not that good (Stewart, he is decent).

Reports were last week he couldn't walk a flight of stairs. Ive had flus like that. They take more than a week to shake the lethargy. So we fly him up to sydney to play on heeney.

Yeah he wouldn't have been 100%. I like that he gives his all though, him and Laverde are good examples of what others have to aspire to.

Very strong defensively. Given the amount of inside 50's they had he was excellent in shutting down one of the best medium forwards in the game.

As for guys who think he was recruited purely for smalls, he's actually been recruited for his abilities on smalls and mediums. Different forward lines have different systems. This week he probably spends time on Riewoldt, Martin and Rioli/Castagna.

Not a good player at all. Makes a mistake in the first minute of the game that sets the tone for the night. Don't know why we signed him, would be playing 2s if he wasn't a recruit from another club.
Bit harsh I think. Was probably in our top 3 for best and fairest earlier in the season (not that that’s hard). He would definitely be good enough to hold his own in a much better team. Our defenders have no chance with our lazy midfield.

Of all the horrific takes I have seen on this board in the last 24 hours, this is up there.

Don’t think Ridley has been out of form. Laverde’s been good as has Heppell despite the naysayers. Stewart had a couple of brain fades but I thought he’s been decent as well. Lack of midfield pressure has been the problem. As for Kelly, has been ok considering it takes time to get used to playing in a defence. Some good early signs from Reid as well

Kelly did an excellent job on an in-form Heeney - Laverde's form has been a worry for the last five games - Except for one game, he was beaten on one occasion and taken to the cleaners three times - He was totally outclassed by Franklin who was BOG in the first half - Looking from afar he seems to be one of the culprits in the zone defence breaking down.

Hard to pot the defenders with the amount of unpressured i50s coming their way each week at the moment IMO.

hasn't been our worst but has under performed compared to what it looked like he would bring to the club.

stick with him. let him get used to the players around him before passing judgement

He has been good all year for the amount of easy ball coming in.
Would be surprised if he is not in our top 5 B & F at the moment.

He, Redman and Laverde can hold their heads high.

Must admit havnt watched Lav that closely recently

He going well? Thought he battled a bit early on but pretty hard as a defender in this side. Conceding 2-3 goals is almost a win

Pretty similar to Kelly really, just tries his guts out.

He gets a mismatch pretty much every week but just battles through it and does his job.

Can only assume Truck would love him, the very definition of 'blue collar'.
