You certainly cant attempt to address anything if you only have 3 nd picks and only one is in the top 50.

I dont believe he was anywhere near best available and with our first pick being at 29 this yr i believe it could have gone on greatest need.

We just used a first round pick last yr on a sml fwd. we have a mature sml fwd who kicked 35 goals this yr and we have two other very young sml fwds in Butler who has suffered because of injury and Short as a junior was a Fwd but we have chosen to play him elsewhere. then there is edwards who does not spend much time fwd but his best yr was probably in that role.
The list is littered with smalls including Yarran who does not come off the list until the end of 2017 about a third of the list is made up of them.
I would label 14 players as smalls on our list and we continue to basically ignore our tall problems yeah sure we took a tall at pick 70?odd. it amounts to tokenism and means we go into a season with the club and many supporters expecting a top 8 finish with just Astbury lol, Rance and now an 84kg kid taken at 72 in the draft as kpd options. It is a similar story with out kpfs as well.

But Carlton had our pick 6 to use on what they thought was best available they also had what 6 or 7 picks in the nd.

Amazingly blokes like Brodie, logue, SPS, Scrimshaw were all there at our original pickI am still disappointed in the direction we took, was adamant we try and trade into a top 5 pick failing that top 10 and trade for Prestia with a future nd pick

Brodie and Logue would have addressed glaring needs and the long term with some certainty and Prestia would help with the immediate future.

Personally i would have liked to see them put a bid in for Macreadie at 29 and if it was matched would have targeted one of Brennan Cox or Josh Rotham.

Finally sml fwds like ruickmen always tend to go late or in the rookie draft there is always plenty to pick from later on.Lebois and Stengle are two that come straight to mind.

Anyway as i said good luck to Bolton he has heaps of talent but there are some real issues in his game and no way would i be taking such a small player who gets virtually no ball for himself and really lacks a motor with the only decent pick we have in the entire draft.

there ya go people lebois went one pick before stengle they both have as much chance of making it as a sml fwd as Bolton.
Look for the smalls later in the nd or rookie draft.

Even tho we only had 1 pick inside 50, we 'addressed' 3 area's which is why we only had 1 pick inside 50. Prestia and Caddy for midfield talent, and Nankervis for ruck depth. So whilst is would be good to have those picks, its not like we got nothing for them.

Not our first. Maybe our third. This year was a draft for mids. Should have gone hard on mids. Next year two picks in first round to select talls we need. Maybe I'm missing something but I really thought it was that simple. You have to admit the picks we took were a little surprising.

Scharenberg not even rookied, every club must see something about him that is not AFL standard

Without a doubt weaver got most things right hence he got a gig at an afl club.
Some rated jr a top 10 pick others thought he would go a little later. There was 6 outstanding junior talls in that draft and JR was one of them.A lot in my circle really liked him.
I was dirty at the club nothing new there !!!!! because i felt we desperately needed kpps and trading down to pick 13 could have meant we missed one of the better ones going around. the club took a risk and got lucky with JR still being there imo.
Logic says if you really rate a player you are not going to trade down 5 places and risk not getting him.

B Ellis is hardly a failure.

Same flogs have criticised ever draft pick in my 10 years here. I remember the meltdown from the draft experts when we drafted Cotchin when Cale Morton was still available

Amazing how people are comparing Bolton to players we already have on our list?

Lennon, Lambert and Short you gotta be ******* kidding me. Only player to compare him to would be Rioli and even then we cant compare him to Rioli because we still dont even know what Rioli will become.

If you are trying to compare to him anyone on the list than maybe Edwards is the player he gets compared to but with lighting pace.

And I'd add with far more imagination than Edwards. More confidence to take the game on in terms of backing his instinct. Down side I suppose is guys like this could be a loose cannon but I'm happy with that considering we are top heavy on players who are just so cautious and still end up making stuff ups. I'm all for him stuffing up at times having a go. As time goes by he'll get better at choosing his moments.

If we can get Bolton to commit to doing his best he will be a star IMO. Very smooth mover and I'm happy with disposal on highlight reel.
I hope Rioli, Bolton and Stengel push each other and compete hard with Lloyd and others for senior games.
